New Samsung Galaxy A07 Arrives in Kenya

One year after launching the Samsung Galaxy A06, Samsung has updated the budget segment with the Samsung Galaxy A07, a cost-effective device that focuses on providing good features at a lower price.

Design and Build Highlights

The phone has a glass front, a plastic back, and plastic frames. At the bottom, you will find a USB-C charging port, a headphone jack, and a speaker grille. 

On the right side, there are volume rockers and a power button that also functions as the fingerprint sensor. Additionally, the SIM tray, located on the same side, can hold two nano SIM cards and an SD card.

At the front of the phone, there is a teardrop notch, which is typical for Samsung's budget devices. I assume they include this design element in their budget segment to differentiate it from their upper mid-range and flagship smartphones.

Additionally, the phone is rated IP54 for dust and water resistance, meaning it can withstand water splashes. Overall, the design is good, but it lacks any standout features that would make it unique.

Display and Performance Features

Samsung is renowned for offering the best AMOLED displays, even in its budget lineup. However, the Galaxy A07 does not feature this type of display. Instead, Samsung has opted to include an LCD panel, which is reasonable considering its price range.

The A07 features a 6.7-inch 720x1600 PLS LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate. There is a teardrop notch, which we have discussed, and the screen-to-body ratio is 83.6 percent.

The bezels around the phone are not symmetrical; they are quite chunky, especially at the bottom. Note that the viewing angles and the color contrast won’t be immersive and sharp, given the LCD panel and the 720p resolution.

The standout feature of the A07 is the 6nm Mediatek Helio G99 chipset. This processor has previously been used in higher-end smartphones, such as the Redmi Note 13 Pro and the Samsung A15, and is now included in the A07. Games such as Call of Duty Mobile can run on medium settings on the Galaxy A07.

I personally own the Redmi Note 13 Pro, and I've found that the G99 performs well in everyday tasks, including gaming. So, you can expect good performance from the A07 as well.

Devices like the Redmi 15c and the Tecno Spark 40 are equipped with the MediaTek G81 chipset and are priced similarly to the Galaxy A07. Games such as Call of Duty Mobile can run on medium settings on the Galaxy A07.

The phone has four storage options: 64GB with 4GB RAM, 128GB with 4GB RAM, 128GB with 6GB RAM, and 256GB with 8GB RAM. For the best performance.

Camera System Overview

At the back, the phone features a 50MP main camera and an 8MP selfie shooter. The 50 MP will take good photos under good lighting; however, it might struggle in low light.

The 8MP camera performs well in good lighting conditions, but photos may appear grainy in low light. Both the front and back cameras can record videos at 1080p with frame rates of 30 or 60 fps, but they lack stabilization. This means you'll need ample light to capture quality footage.

Battery and Charging

The phone is equipped with a standard 5000mAh battery and comes with a 25W fast charger. Depending on your usage, the battery is designed to last a full day due to its lower-resolution screen and the efficiency of the Mediatek processor.

The phone charges from 0-100% in 1 hour 25 minutes, and from 10-100% takes 1 hour 16 minutes. Unfortunately, Samsung does not include a charger inside the box; only the charging cable is included, and you have to buy the power brick separately.

Samsung's statement on the launch

During the launch, Evelyne Munene, the Product and Marketing Lead at Samsung Electronics East Africa, emphasized that the A07 exemplifies the company's ongoing commitment to making technology accessible to everyone in Kenya. 

She also noted that Samsung is on the brink of providing innovative and high-quality smartphones to all consumers. The company will also be collaborating with Watu and M-KOPA to offer flexible payment plans, making it easier for more Kenyans to own devices that meet their daily needs.

Pricing and Availability 

The Galaxy A07 will be available in Kenya in two variants: the 64GB model with 4GB of RAM priced at KES 12,800 and the 128GB model with 4GB of RAM priced at KES 14,500. Customers can choose from three color options: Gray, Light Violet, and Dark Green.
