Infinix Takes on the Galaxy Ring With a KES 9,000 Smart Ring

The Infinix AI ring has been launched in the Kenyan market at a disruptive price of KES 9,000. This is a significant move that undercuts major competitors, such as the Samsung Galaxy Ring, which retails for KES 45,000, by a massive margin, significantly disrupting the Kenyan wearable market.

Smart rings have traditionally been seen as expensive luxury items, with the market largely dominated by high-priced offerings from major players like Samsung and Oura. However, this is about to change as Infinix prepares to introduce its new, much more affordable AI ring. This move is set to make smart ring technology accessible to the wider mass market.

Key Features & AI Capabilities

Design and build

Infinix hasn't cut corners here; the ring is crafted from stainless steel. This choice of material isn't just about aesthetics; it ensures the ring is durable, corrosion-resistant, and skin-safe for long-term wear.

Despite the rugged build, it is surprisingly unnoticeable. With a slim profile of just 2.69mm and weighing between 3.3g (Size 7) and 4g (Size 12), it’s featherlight on the finger.

Practicality is also a huge plus. The ring is rated 5ATM water-resistant, meaning it can withstand pressures equivalent to a depth of 50 meters.

Whether you are washing your hands, caught in the rain, or hitting the pool, you don't need to take it off. This combination of a lightweight form factor and waterproofing makes it the perfect 24/7 companion, comfortable enough that you’ll barely notice it while sleeping."

Health Tracking

Advanced Sleep Architecture: Exploiting Infinix AI, the ring offers advanced tracking beyond standard metrics. It delivers a detailed, granular analysis of your rest by segmenting sleep into Deep, Light, and REM stages. Over time, the AI identifies specific sleep patterns and provides concrete, actionable advice designed to optimize your sleep hygiene for superior recovery.

Furthermore, the ring continuously monitors blood oxygen levels in real-time. This feature provides immediate oxygen insights and a clear visual representation of your current oxygen supply status.

Real-Time Blood Oxygen (SpO2) Monitoring: The ring offers effortless tracking of your respiratory health trends by continuously monitoring your blood oxygen saturation. It provides a visual timeline of your oxygen supply, which is useful whether you are exercising, sleeping, or at high altitudes.

Proactive Heart Health: The AI ring continuously monitors your heart rate, providing a 24/7 watch that establishes your personal baseline. This constant tracking allows it to quickly identify and alert you to any irregularities or abnormal spikes, offering timely insight into your cardiovascular health before minor issues become serious.

Stress Management via HRV: Cashing in on AI integration, the ring analyzes Heart Rate Variability (HRV), a key indicator of your nervous system's status. It accurately senses stress spikes and provides insights to help you regain balance, enabling a stress-free lifestyle through data-driven mindfulness.

Smart Features

The Infinix AI Ring offers several AI capabilities, notably an effortless photo-pinching gesture for camera control. This photo-taking function is exclusively supported within the My Health app.

Battery life

The ring's battery capacity varies by size: 15mAh for smaller sizes and 18mAh for size 10. Infinix suggests the battery can last for several days, a claim that is plausible considering the limited feature set of the device.

Market Analysis: David vs Goliath

While the KES 45,000 Samsung Smart Ring is superior, the KES 9,000 Infinix ring offers significant value. It includes many of the same features, such as heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and blood oxygen measurement, but at a much more affordable price point.

For Kenyans interested in trying out the AI ring form factor without a significant financial burden, the Infinix AI ring offers an accessible option.

The Infinix AI ring will be available across Infinix retail stores, including its online platform Xpark and authorised stores.

Verdict

Priced at KES 9,000, the Infinix AI ring is an effective device for daily monitoring, including sleep tracking, monitoring heart health, and checking oxygen levels.
