Tecno Camon 50 Series Leaks: Helio G100 vs. G200 – Is There a Real Difference?

Rumors of the Tecno Camon 50 series have started surfacing, as reported by GSM Arena.
The upcoming Camon 50 series will likely debut at MWC in Barcelona, just like its predecessor did last year.
The Tecno Camon 50 base model will debut with the Mediatek Helio G100, and the Pro version will debut with the Mediatek Helio G200, both 6nm architectures.
Technical Deep Dive: Helio G100 vs. G200
Mediatek has shown very little improvement in the G series semiconductor. The Mediatek Helio G99 (6nm) really performed well, and I have used a smartphone with this very chipset.
However, Mediatek launched two new SOCs, the Helio G100 and the G200, which, honestly, don’t seem to be a huge difference between these three chipsets.
The difference between the Helio G100 and the Helio G200 is the GPU clock speed on the Mediatek Helio G200. The G200 has a slightly higher clocked Mali-G57 GPU, approximately 1.1Ghz vs 1.0Ghz on the G100, which is likely 10% boost that users won’t feel.
Some features you will find on the Helio G200, which are not included in the G100, include 12-bit DCG ( Dual Conversion Gain) for HDR video, “4G DC SAR” (signal enhancements), which are just minor ISP jumps rather than raw performance.
So basically, the Helio G200 is effectively a G100+ rather than a generational leap.
What This Means for the Tecno Camon 50 Series
Performance-wise on the pro mode, you shouldn’t expect the performance to be significantly faster or in daily tasks compared to the standard model.
Given that the SOCs are technically the same, I believe Tecno is going to differentiate the pro model using other features to justify the price tag, and that might include a better camera (Sony LYT series), faster charging (70W + vs 45W), curved display vs flat display (As seen in the previous generation)
The leaks also suggest that the Tecno Camon 50 series, both the standard and the pro model, will have the same 1080 by 2364 resolution, they will both have 8GB of RAM, and they will come with Android 16 pre-installed.
The Camon 50 will have a punch hole for the selfie camera with a flat screen, while the Camon 50 will have a curved screen with a camera dynamic island cut-out similar to that of the iPhone, which will house the selfie camera.
Context & Industry Trend
Still on the processor, this is a common strategy for MediaTek, as it often refreshes the G series (G96→G99→G100→G200) just to keep 4G devices feeling new in 2026.
This strategy is very important as it keeps costs down for budget phones, but at the same time, it can be very confusing for consumers.
