Vivo is set to bring its next-generation V series smartphone, the Vivo V70 5 G, to the Kenyan market on April 7th, 2026.

In recent years, Vivo has been aggressively targeting the sub-flagship segment, with a strong focus on battery endurance and its latest software experience, OriginOS 6.

But the big question is: is the Vivo V70 5G a meaningful upgrade over its predecessor, the Vivo V60? Let’s break it all down.

Deep Dive 1: Addressing the Snapdragon Die-Hards

For the Snapdragon devotees who were expecting a performance leap from last year's V60 5G, I am sorry, but Vivo decided to use the same processor we had in the V60: the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. That means performance will remain the same.

According to benchmark results, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 delivers a 24% increase in Antutu performance, with 10% and 18% increases in single-core and multi-core scores, respectively.

So, inasmuch as the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 shows a substantial improvement over the 7 Gen 3, Vivo could have at least upgraded the chipset to something like the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4.

But don’t get me wrong: the 7 Gen 4 is a very capable chipset, and you should expect great performance for scrolling through social media and playing less demanding titles. The new OxygenOS will enhance this experience and make it battery-smooth.

The 6500mAh Battery Reality

Moving on to the Vivo V70's battery, we still get a huge 6500mAh silicon-carbon battery. On top of that, it supports 90W charging, reverse wired charging, and bypass charging. Everything in the battery department is still the same.

If you are a light or moderate user, you should expect two full days of use. For heavy users, good luck killing the battery before 8 hours.

The Software Shift (OriginOS 6)

For the longest time, Vivo has been using Funtouch OS as a custom skin on Android. Before switching to OriginOS, Vivo used FuntouchOS.

Vivo switched to OriginOS in late October 2025 to address user feedback on FuntouchOS's limitations, aiming for a more competitive, premium software experience with superior animations, customization, and smoother performance.

Incorporating OriginOS into the Vivo V70 means the phone will be less bloated with apps, leading to a satisfying user experience, a buttery-smooth UI, and long-term software support.

Network and Local Carrier Compatibility

The Vivo V70 is, without question, a 5G smartphone, but in Kenya, 5G is still finding its footing. That said, the momentum is building. Safaricom, for example, has already rolled out 5G across 21 counties, while Airtel Kenya has expanded its network to over 3,200 sites, reaching roughly 89% of the population across all 47 counties.

In areas with solid 5G coverage, mainly urban and well-developed regions, the Vivo V70 should perform just fine. The challenge lies in less-covered areas, particularly rural areas, where 5G remains unavailable, and in such cases, the phone may keep searching for a signal, which can drain the battery faster than expected.

For that reason, it’s smarter to set 4G as your default network. It’s far more stable and widely available nationwide, making it the more reliable option for everyday use, especially outside major towns.

Pricing, Availability, and The Final Verdict

As of the publication of this article, I still don’t have the official pricing for the phone, but it should be around KES 78,500.

If you still have the Vivo V60, there is no need to upgrade to the V70 because Vivo hasn’t made any major improvements to the processor, the cameras, the display, or the build quality.

However, if you are coming from an older smartphone or a budget phone, then the Vivo V70 is the right one for you.
