The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has shared some impressive numbers. In June, the count of registered local domains hit a record-breaking 103,298, a significant leap from 97,596 in the same month the previous year.

The growth story began in 2018 with 85,744 registrations, reaching 101,123 in 2020 as businesses turned to digital platforms in the middle of COVID-19 restrictions. Despite a slight dip in 2021, the numbers are back on track and climbing. It’s truly a testament to the strength and adaptability of businesses in Kenya.

Kenya being digitally evolving, an interesting pattern emerged in the year leading up to June 2023. Businesses were at the forefront, submitting a massive 90,868 applications. They were followed by individual users, personal websites, non-profit organizations, and others.
