Tecno Camon 30 Rumors: What to Expect (Camera, Display, More)

Over the years, Tecno has been continuously improving its smartphones, from hardware to software, and this trend continues with the latest Camon 30.

Tecno has various series with distinct features. Camon focuses on the camera, Pova on battery, and Spark on budget entry smartphones.

This year Tecno is expected to launch the Camon 30 series which will focus mainly on the camera but will have other improvements including the chipset. In this article, we will talk about the expected specifications of the base Camon 30 series and what to expect, but here is a sneak peek of the phone's spec sheet.

Display

The display of the phone looks promising, if the leaks are anything to go by then we could see a 6.67-inch AMOLED display full HD display and a fast 120Hz refresh rate to make scrolling smooth. However, I don’t expect the display to be any better than its predecessor.

The display will be very vibrant and contrasty with those deep black if they decide to use the AMOLED display with FHD.

Processor and performance

This is where we expect to see some huge improvements. The Camon is expected to ship with the Mediatek G-99 ultra which is basically helio G-99 but with a fancy name fabricated under 6nm architecture for power efficiency and good performance a major improvement from last year's Camon 20 which had a G85 SOC fabricated under a 12nm architecture.

We have noticed that some other manufacturers, like Xiaomi, have been using the same chipset in their mid-range smartphones, such as the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G. The performance of this chipset is generally good, but if you are a heavy gamer and play demanding games like Genshin Impact, then the G-99 may struggle a bit. The chipset is suitable for scrolling through social media, watching YouTube videos, zoom calls, and other less demanding activities.

Please keep in mind that the chipset on the Camon 30 base model will be powerful. It's exciting to imagine what kind of chipset the Camon Pro and Premiere models will have. Perhaps they will have a Dimensity chipset? We will have to wait and see.

On the storage side of things, we expect two RAM variants 8GB/12 GB RAM for multitasking, and possibly a base storage of 256GB so maybe there won't be a 128GB version?

Camera

An Image shared by an X user Maii_HD shows that the Camon 30 may have four cameras embedded in a circular ring. The four cameras include a 100MP main camera, 2MP(unnamed lens), and two AI cameras. 

Based on my experience with Tecno phones, I have observed that the additional cameras on the phone are just there to attract customers. However, with the introduction of Camon 30, Tecno seems to be incorporating AI technology in their cameras. AI is the current buzzword in technology, and it will be interesting to see the extent of AI capabilities in this new phone.

The phone is expected to record videos at a max of 2k resolution we currently don’t have any information about the stabilization and if the company decides to include stabilization maybe at 1080p.

We expect a 50MP front-facing camera that will capture high-quality photos. Like the rear cameras, it is expected to record videos at a maximum resolution of 2K. You may be curious as to why they chose to limit the front and rear camera video recording to 2K resolution. This is because of the Mediatek G-99 which only supports the max recording of up to 2K, maybe if they went for a better processor we could see 4K but that would result in the phone being priced higher so they had to cut corners to keep the price low.

Battery and Charging

We don’t have any information about the battery but we expect the battery to remain the same at 5oomAH which is by today’s standard and it should last a full day or two days depending on on your usage.

The phone is expected to come with a 33W fast charger and a type-C cable that can fully charge the phone in 70 minutes. 

Other features

In exclusive images obtained by Techblogsafrica, the design of the new device appears to be significantly different from its predecessor and quite impressive. At the front, there is a punch-hole camera, while the right side has the usual volume rocker keys and a power button.

However, it has not yet been confirmed whether the power button will also function as a fingerprint scanner. There is a possibility that the fingerprint scanner will be an under-display one, just like its predecessor.

We are expecting the upcoming device to feature dual stereo speakers for an immersive sound experience, along with a 3.5mm jack. Additionally, it may have an IR blaster situated at the top, which will allow on to control other electronic devices like TVs and air conditioners. However, this feature is nothing new for Xiaomi users.

The Tecno Camon 30 is expected to come with Android 14 and Tecno's HIOS on top.

In the past, Tecno's HIOS had a lot of bloatware and ads, which made the user experience quite poor. However, Tecno has since made major improvements to its Android skin, and we can expect a better experience with the upcoming Camon 30. It is unlikely that the phone will have any bloatware or ads we will have to wait and see.

We don’t have any concrete information suggesting that the phone will come with an Ingress protection rating but we can expect that because its predecessor had an ip53 rating against splash and dust

Potential Pricing and Availability

After the launch, the phone will be available in select Tecno shops and reseller shops.

We can estimate the pricing to be in the KES.20k plus bracket I will update you once I get the official listing of the phone.

Conclusion

Having said that the base model of the Camon 30 series looks very promising ranging from the camera tech, the powerful Mediatek G-99, and the overall design which may include an IR bluster, Tecno is not taking any chances

I hope that all the mentioned features are true and that nothing will change. I am personally excited about the cameras of the phone since it is a camera-centric device, and we hope for better specifications.
