Infinix takes Centre Stage with Exciting Details On Note 40 Series Launch in Kenya
Several weeks ago, Infinix officially announced the global launch of the Note 40 series. The Note 40 series comprises four distinct models: the standard Note 40, the Note 40 Pro 4G, the Note 40 Pro 5G, and the Note 40 Pro plus 5G.
In a bold move, Infinix has introduced these new models packed with impressive features that leave its predecessors in the dust. Among the highlights is the lightning-fast 100W charging capability, enabled by the Cheetah X1 chip which not only charges the phone in a snap but also extends its overall battery life. But that's just a taste of the innovations Infinix has in store – let's delve into the details.
Infinix Note 4 series: The Line up Unveiled.
Infinix Note 40
This is the base model of the Infinix Note 40 series and it has some impressive specifications. For starters, it has a steady build with boxy sides.
At the back, there is a triple camera setup which we will get to in a bit, at the front we get a modern design language with a punch-hole selfie camera with corning gorilla glass protection. The phone has an Ingress protection rating of 54 resistant against dust and splash.
Infinix has often fallen short regarding display brightness, but this time, they have made significant progress. The smartphone features an AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring seamless scrolling and a peak brightness of 1300.
We expect deep visual and punchy colors when using the phone in the dark and under direct sunlight. It measures 6.78-inch display size diagonally with a resolution of 1080*2436.
Under the hood, we get a Mediatek G99 ultimate which is a tweaked version of the G99 specifically designed to work with this particular model. We have seen this chipset on other devices such as the Poco M6, and Redmi Note 13 pro 4G and they perform well.
These phones have performed admirably, but it's important to note that if you're a serious gamer, the chipset may not meet your expectations. To illustrate, games like PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Genshin Impact may only run smoothly on certain devices. However, this can vary based on the phone you're using. For instance, if a phone has more RAM, its performance may be more stable or even better.
This is not to say the G99 will not run all games it will, but not at the highest frame rates, it's a good midrange processor for casual gaming.
The camera system consists of a 108MP main sensor and two 2MP supplementary sensors. Based on my experience with Infinix devices, the primary camera likely handles the majority of the work, and the additional sensors may not have a significant influence on image or video quality. The main camera can capture videos up to 2K resolution at 30 frames per second, but it lacks optical image stabilization (OIS).
At the front, there is a 32MP selfie camera still with no OIS and the video resolution is maxed out to 1080p 30fps.
On board the storage we get 8GB RAM and 256 GB ROM, there is no mention of other storage variants, we have to wait for the official launch as Infinix might decide to include other storage options.
It comes with a huge 5000Mah paired with a 45w fast charging via the type-c cable and can also charge wirelessly up to 20W, with the included MagCharge. Other notable features include an under-display fingerprint scanner.
Infinix Note 40 Pro 4G
The Infinix Note 40 Pro 4G is an enhanced version of the standard Note 40, featuring several notable upgrades to set it apart from the base model. One key distinction is the curved screen, offering an immersive viewing experience.
The device boasts an AMOLED display with a remarkable peak brightness of 1300 nits, ensuring vibrant visuals, and a resolution of 1080*2463 pixels, delivering sharp and detailed content.
Beneath the surface, the smartphone operates with the same Mediatek G99 ultimate chip, paired with Android 14 and Infinix's unique XOS 14 customized user interface. Furthermore, the device will receive two years of operating system updates and three years of security patches, a significant step forward considering the brand's previous inconsistent software update policy.
On the storage side of things, the phone has two options to choose from, 256 GB 8GB RAM, and 256GB 12 GB RAM with UFS 2.2.
The camera system of the phone consists of a 108MP selfie shooter and two additional cameras, the main camera is capable of recording videos at a maximum resolution of 2k at 30 frames per second. The only distinction from the basic model is the inclusion of an OIS system, which ensures stable videos and photographs. On the front, there is a 32MP shooter, which records videos at 1080p resolution but lacks an OIS system.
It has a 5000mAH battery and a 70w fast charging. It comes with 20w wireless charging, reverses wired, and reverses wireless meaning you can charge other devices wired or wireless.
Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G
This model has a lot to go for and improvements as compared to the other two models. First, the design language is pretty much the same as compared to the other two models, the only slight downside is the IP 53 rating.
The phone's display is AMOLED, a significant upgrade from the previous model the Note 30. It boasts 1 billion colors, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an impressive peak brightness of 1300 nits. Measuring 6.78 inches diagonally, the display offers a resolution of 1080x2436 pixels and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, providing enhanced durability and scratch resistance.
The camera setup is the same as we get on the 4G versions, the 108MP main camera, and two 2MP cameras. The selfie is still the same with a 32MP.
In terms of storage, the phone offers two options: 256 GB with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB with 12 GB of RAM, both featuring UFS 2.2 technology.
Under the hood, the device boasts a significant improvement. It features a Mediatek 7020 5G processor manufactured using a 6nm fabrication process. This enhancement promises smoother animations and a seamless gaming experience, putting it on par with competitors. Additionally, the phone comes pre-installed with Android 14, overlaid with the XOS 14 operating system, ensuring an up-to-date and user-friendly interface.
Regrettably, the absence of a headphone jack necessitates users to purchase wireless earbuds or headphones. Nonetheless, Infinix eases this inconvenience by incorporating dual stereo speakers finely tuned by JBL, promising an enhanced and immersive audio experience.
It comes with a huge 5000Mah with fast 45w charging and a bit slower than the Note pro 4G, 20w wireless charging with Magsafe included with reverse wired and wireless charging capabilities.
Infinix Note 40 Pro + 5G
The Note 40 is the most advanced model in the Note 40 series, but most of its features are the same as those of the Note 40 Pro 5G, with only a few minor differences.
I am quite dissatisfied with the device's chipset selection. It utilizes the same MediaTek Dimensity 7020 as the Note 40 Pro 5G, running on Android 14 and XOS version 14. It would have been beneficial to incorporate the Dimensity 8200, which provides superior performance while maintaining excellent battery life.
All four models share the same camera setup, which consists of a 108MP primary lens and two 2MP lenses. It's worth noting that the images captured by each model may vary due to the different chipsets used. Since different chipsets process images differently, distinct results are to be expected. Another drawback of the camera is its limitation to recording 2K videos, which is imposed by the hardware.
The display is 6.78-inch AMOLED with 1B colors with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1300 nits of peak brightness and has a resolution of 1080*2436 with corning gorilla glass protection and it's curved.
The key feature of this model is its 4600mAH battery with an impressive 100w fast charging capability. This rapid charging technology enables the phone to go from 0 to 100 percent in just under 12 minutes. Additionally, the phone supports 20w wireless charging and both reverse wired and wireless charging, providing convenient and versatile charging options.
Other notable features include NFC (but this varies with different markets), dual stereo speakers tuned by JBL, and an under-display fingerprint scanner.
Noteworthy Enhancements: What Sets the Note 40 Series Apart.
The Note 40 series this year has several significant upgrades over its predecessor. These improvements include a brighter display, fast charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging, which are uncommon features in midrange phones. Additionally, there are enhancements in both the front and rear cameras, with higher megapixel counts.
The latest model introduces an Ingress protection rating, which was absent in its predecessor, as well as Gorilla Glass protection. In contrast, last year's base model did not specify the type of screen protection employed.
This year, there are four models to choose from, with two models offering 4G connectivity and the remaining two featuring the latest 5G connectivity. Notably, last year's lineup did not include any 5G models.

The verdict: Is the infinix Note 40 Series a Kenyan Smartphone revolution?
The Infinix Note 40 series delivers on the hype, offering a ton of features that many users will find irresistible. The 5G models, in particular, stand out with their blazing-fast charging, impressive display, 5G connectivity, and solid performance. Even the 4G models are worth considering, providing great value for their price.
One notable feature of the Note 40 series is the inclusion of a charger and MagSafe for wireless charging. This is a notable advantage over many competing brands, which often require users to purchase a charger separately.
Other key features of the Note 40 series include a brighter screen, AMOLED displays, two years of OS updates, and three years of security updates. These features make the Note 40 series a compelling choice for those seeking a well-rounded smartphone.
