Samsung S24 FE Launches In Kenya at KES. 91,000: Features, Pricing and Availability
Samsung has introduced a new member to its S24 lineup, the Samsung S24 FE. Unveiled on September 26th, the S24 FE has finally entered the Kenyan market and comes with impressive specifications.
Samsung is among the few smartphone brands that bring their flagship into the Kenyan market as most brands tend to focus on midrange and budget phones. Let's see what the S2 FE has in store for us.
Key Features of Samsung S24 FE
Display
The display of this phone is truly impressive. It features a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth scrolling.
The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+, which allows the phone to withstand falls from heights of up to 2 meters without breaking. With a resolution of 1080 by 2340 pixels and a peak brightness of 1900 nits, it performs exceptionally well in outdoor lighting conditions.
Watching videos on his display will be good given the AMOLED display and the support of HDR10+.
Performance
The phone is powered by the Exynos 2400e chipset. Although it may seem disappointing at first, the Exynos 2400e is a capable processor. The main difference between the Exynos 2400 and the 2400e is that the latter is slightly underclocked.
However, it can handle tasks efficiently without any issues. If you're a casual to moderate user, you likely won't notice any difference between the two chipsets.
The Exynos 2400e is a 4nm chipset designed for efficiency and enhanced battery life. It offers three storage configurations: 128GB with 8GB of RAM, 256GB with 8GB of RAM, and 512GB with 8GB of RAM.
I believe Samsung had to make some compromises here; for that price, you can find other brands offering more RAM options, with some going up to 12GB or even 16GB. An 8GB RAM model priced at KES 91,000 is quite unimpressive.
Camera
On the camera side, the S24 FE packs a 50MP main shooter with OIS, an 8MP telephoto lens with OIS and 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, fortunately, no gimmicky sensors. Photos taken should be good, especially in good lighting conditions.
For video recording Samsung has taken it a notch higher, the phone can record at a max of 8K resolution at 30fps, 4K up to 120fps, 1080p up to 240fps, and 720 up to 960fps. If you will be recording using the 8K resolution I recommend getting the 512GB version as 128GB or 256GB might not be sufficient.
At the front, there is a 10MP selfie shooter capable of recording videos up to 4k 60fps with Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), although EIS isn’t the best, it’s better than having no stabilization.
Battery
The battery of the Samsung S24FE took a big hit packing a smaller battery capacity of 4700mAh but that’s slightly higher than what the S24 has, a 4000mAh. Even though the battery is smaller it should last you an entire day of use if you are a casual user, but if you are a heavy user you might want to carry a charger with you or charge the phone frequently.
The good news is that the S24FE supports up to 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging. The bad news is that a charger is not included in the box; you will have to buy one separately.
Software
The phone is equipped with Android 14 and Samsung's OneUI 6.1. It offers several AI features, including circle-to-search, night photography enhancements, object awareness, generative editing, a portrait studio, slow-motion capabilities, and editing suggestions. However, Samsung has announced that starting in 2025, certain Galaxy AI features will no longer be available for free.
Samsung custom skin is known to be well-optimized with little to no lags. Samsung has promised up to 7 years of OS, security, and OneUI upgrades, which is impressive since most manufacturers often offer four years of OS and security patches.
If you're concerned about your phone slowing down in the future, there’s no need to worry. However, I’m really curious to know how many people have actually used a smartphone for seven years. Also, will Samsung follow through on its promise of providing seven OS updates? Only time will tell.
Why the Galaxy S24 FE Tends To Stand Out In Kenya
The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is a well-rounded phone, although Samsung made some trade-offs to maintain lower prices.
As compared to the previous S23 FE we have seen some improvements in the display of the S24 FE, it has much thinner bezels all around, 7 years of OS and security patches, the battery, performance, and durability.
The unique selling point of the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is its extended period of software updates—seven years compared to four years for other models. If you want to stay future-proof and ensure you don't miss out on important Android, security, and One UI updates, then the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is the right phone for you.
Price and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is now available at all Samsung stores nationwide and at local retailers like Phone Place Kenya. To celebrate the launch of the S24 FE, Samsung is offering a special promotion:
When you purchase the phone along with the Galaxy Buds 3, the combined price is KES 101,000. Since the Galaxy Buds 3 usually retail for KES 20,000, buying them together with the S24 FE represents significant savings.
Final Thoughts
If you're coming from an older phone or have never used a Samsung device before, you should consider the S24 FE. However, for KES. 90,000, I recommend opting for previous flagship models like the Samsung S23 Ultra, as it offers advantages such as higher RAM.
Although the Galaxy S24 FE is overpriced it’s still a good phone. Here are the pros and cons
Pros
- Extended software updates up to 7 years
- Slimmer bezels as compared to last year’s
- Nice display
- Premium build
- Good performance
- Galaxy AI features
Cons
- Overpriced
- Thick bezels
