Okay, so it looks like Infinix is already cooking up something new. A mystery device just popped up on Geekbench, and for once, we don't really have to guess what it is. The listing basically spilled everything, including the IMEI number, which points straight to one phone: the Infinix GT 50 Pro.

The Geekbench results show that the phone has a single-core score of 1612 and a multicore score of 6686. These scores place the device in the flagship killer territory as it outperforms higher flagship chips in multi-core tasks while maintaining solid mid-range single-core performance.

If these leaked scores are anything to go by, Infinix isn’t targeting budget gamers anymore; they are targeting flagship killers.

The "Tetraphobia" Explanation

It appears Infinix is skipping the GT 40 Pro and moving straight to the GT 50 Pro, and this might be due to Tetraphobia. Tetraphobia is the fear of the number 4, which is a superstition in East Asian Culture particularly in China, where Infinix’s parent company, Transsion Holding,s is headquartered.

There is also the inconsistency factor, whereby the Tetraphobia gets complicated, since Infinx has used the number 4 in the past with the Infinix Note 40 series and the Infinix Hot 40, the decision to skip the GT series likely involves a second reason, which is leapfrogging.

The jump from 30 to 50 psychologically feels like a more massive upgrade to consumers than moving from 30 to 40.

Also in the tech world, the 40 and 4 are sometimes viewed by consumers as minor changes, whereas 5 or 50 signals a new generation. Calling it the GT 50 Pro Infiix signifies that this device is a major evolution rather than a small refresh.

Deep Dive: The Dimensity 8400 Powerhouse

Leaked Geekbench 6 scores for Infinix GT 50 Pro (Model X6891) showing 1612 Single-Core and 6686 Multi-Core performance on Android 16.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8400 (4nm) is a sub-flagship chipset designed to bring flagship-level performance to mid-range phones priced at around $ 300-$ 400.

The Dimensity 8400 is reportedly the first mid-range chipset to bring the all-big-core design. Most chipsets usually mix big, powerful cores for heavy tasks with weaker cores to save on battery, but the 8400 ditches the little cores entirely as it uses 8x performance cores (Cortex A725).

Over the years,  buying a new phone meant accepting weaker processors, but the dimensity 8400 kills this trade-off.

The Dimensity 8400 will also put a lot of pressure on Qualcomm as it might be forced to lower the prices of its sub-flagship chipsets like the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 or the  8s Gen 3, which will lead to cheaper and faster phones.

Software Surprise: Android 16 Out of the Box

The benchmark confirms the device will launch with Android 16 out of the box, which is a good move compared to some manufacturers like Xiaomi, which launched their Redmi Note 15 Series with Android 15 out of the box, so that they can eat up one year of promised OS upgrades.

Speculation: What Else to Expect?

Just like the Infinix Gt 30 Pro, the GT 50 Pro will likely feature an AMOLED display paired with 144Hz fast charging, 256GB, 8 or 12GB RAM.

On the design front, the GT 50 Pro will likely have a Cyber Macca design aesthetic with RGB lighting.

Conclusion

Infinix is aggressively moving upmarket with the GT 50 Pro. If the specs are anything to go by, then this phone will be among the few that offer a great price-to-money ratio.
