Is Samsung Copy-Pasting Again? Galaxy A57 Looks Just Like the A56

Samsung Galaxy A57 smartphone design preview, similar to Samsung Galaxy A56, showing rear camera layout and modern finish

If you look at the spec sheet for the upcoming Samsung A57, you may be reading the A56 spec sheet; they share many similarities.

For instance, the cameras, both front and back, are basically the same apart from the ultrawide. The battery remains the same at 5000mAh with a 45W charger, although this will charge the A57 faster, given it only has a 5000mAh battery (charger not included in the box)

But before you click away and suggest that it is scum, there is one number that suggests that something bigger is happening under the hood.

Galaxy A57: What Changed?

Feature Specification
Main Camera 50MP OIS Sensor Same
Chipset Exynos 1680 (3nm) Faster
Battery 5000 mAh Same
Charging 45W Wired Same
Design Thinner (6.9mm) New

The "Copy-Paste" Accusation

We have had the same camera for three years in a row now, from the A54 to the A57. I had hoped that Samsung would do away with the macro lens entirely and use two cameras; the resources used in the Gimmicky macro lens could be put to good use in making a good ultrawide lens or a telephoto lens.

When you look at the Galaxy A54, Samsung made a formula with it; they polished it with the Samsung A56, and now they are refusing to change it.

This is definitely looking like yet another lazy year for Samsung; however, if you take a look at the bottom of the sheet, two numbers don’t make sense: the 6.99mm thickness and the Exynos 1680  (3nm)

The Samsung A56 was 7.4mm thick, while the Samsung A57 is rumored to be slightly thinner at 6.99mm thick, while keeping the same 5000mAh battery.

First, the thickness drops to 6.9mm. And second, they’ve swapped the chip for the Exynos 1680. Usually, thinner phones mean worse cooling, but this chip might be the reason they can get away with it.

The Deviations: Where They Did Change It

The Slim form factor

Samsung decided to keep the battery at 5000mAh but shaved off 0.55mm. I think this isn’t just for aesthetics, it’s an engineering flex as many companies nowadays are producing slim phone including Infinix with their Note Edge. I don’t see what value slim phones add, but that’s just the trend.

The Chipset

The Samsung A56 had the Exynos 1580; the Exynos 1680 isn’t just a number bump; if rumors are true, this brings flagship-level efficiency, which allows fora thinner body without overheating. It is also expected to be based on AMD’s RDNA 3.5 microarchitecture, which has been used in the Exynos 2500.

The Verdict: Who is getting fooled?

My honest opinion on this is that if you already own the A55 or the A56, don’t upgrade to the A57 unless you want to for whatever reason, but if you are on the A52 or the A53, this is finally the perfect version of the phone you love.

Is 6.99mm enough to make you upgrade, or are you tired of the same camera? Let me know in the comments below.
