Redmi A7 Pro vs itel A200: Which Budget Phone Is Actually Worth Your Money?
Over the past couple of years, the budget smartphone market has really peaked, particularly in Africa, where 81 percent of phones sold in 2025 were under $200 (KES 25,000).
It’s also unbelievable that these budget smartphones are equipped with flagship features, such as a 120Hz refresh rate, IP69 water- and dust-resistance, a bigger battery, and fast charging for just $200 or less.
However, budget phones aren’t perfect, and there is a reason why they are priced that way, because finding a cheap budget phone that doesn’t lag after a few months is a pain in the search.
The Redmi A7 Pro and the Itel A200 just hit the Kenyan market, which I am going to match them up as the ultimate battle for the entry-level market crown.
The Redmi A7 Pro has a humongous 6000mAh battery, while the Itel A200 features an ultra-rugged, drop-resistant build.
Redmi A7 Pro vs itel A200: First Impressions and Build Quality
Starting with the Redmi A7 Pro, it has a sleek and redefined design. The back of this phone is made of plastic, including the sides. There are two cameras at the back, which we will get to in a bit.
Xiaomi didn’t state the level of IP protection, so I would recommend keeping the phone out of water and dust.
The Redmi A7 Pro comes in four color ways: Black, Mist Blue, Palm Green, and Sunset Orange, and I kind of like the Sunset Orange color; it looks stunning out of the bunch.
Xiaomi hasn’t mentioned which type of glass it has used for the front display, but being a budget phone, we don’t expect any kind of Corning Gorilla Glass display, but rather a cheap glass.
Itel A200, on the other hand, has a more robust build quality as it is MIL-STD 810H certified against drops up to 1.8m, which doesn’t guarantee ruggedness or use in extreme conditions.
It is also IP 65 dust and water-resistant for low-pressure water jets, so don’t take it to the shower or anything like that.
The A200 comes with three colour ways, Meteor Titanium, Nightly Blue, and Comet Orange.
The Redmi A7 Pro might feel heavier due to the larger display. Unfortunately, Itel has not officially listed the weight of the Itel A200, but it should weigh anywhere between 185 g and 195 g.

Display Showdown: 120Hz on a Budget?
Both phones feature IPS LCDs with a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother swipes and scrolls with the same 720 by 1600 resolution.
The Redmi A7 Pro pulls ahead with a higher nit brightness, coming at 800 nit peak brightness, so visibility under direct sunlight might be better.
The Itel A200, on the other hand, has 4095 levels of brightness, meaning the phone can shift brightness in 4095 tiny steps from the dimmest to the brightest level.
Keep in mind, this is not a quality-experience feature, nor is it a headline specification like peak brightness, but once you start to use the phone with finer brightness control, it feels noticeably more polished.
The Redmi A7 Pro is TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light (Software Solution) Certified, TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free Certified, and TÜV Rheinland Circadian Friendly Certified, which are all lacking on the Itel A200.
The Redmi has a 6.9-inch display, while the Itel, on the other hand, has a 6.75-inch display. The huge display on the Redmi will be suitable for entertainment, such as watching movies.
Performance and Software Experience
On the performance front, you should keep your expectations low.
Both phones share the same Unisoc T7250 (12nm) chipset. This chipset is on the lower end, as it offers efficient daily performance for social media browsing and light gaming.
The Redmi comes in two storage configurations: 64GB 4GB RAM and 128GB 4GB RAM. The Itel, on the other hand, comes with 64GB 3GB, 128GB 3GB, and 128GB 4GB. Go for the highest configuration if possible.
The 12nm chipset is not the most efficient, especially on the Itel A200, which has a 5000mAh battery; the battery might drain faster under heavy workloads such as playing games. The Redmi has a 6000mAh battery and should definitely last longer than the Itel.
On the software front, the Redmi A7 Pro comes with Android 16 out of the box on top of Xiaomi HyperOS 3. On the other hand, Itel A200 comes with Android 15 Go edition on top of Itel OS 15.1.
Redmi A7 Pro is expected to receive up to 4 years of major OS updates and 6 years of security patches, which is really impressive. On the other hand, I am not sure if Itel will receive any OS updates, given the company’s track record of not supporting its budget phones with software updates.
Also, you get the full Android on Redmi, while on Itel, you get the go edition, which is a lightweight version of Android designed for entry-level smartphones, and it might actually run smoother with 4GB RAM, but HyperOS 3 offers a richer feature set.
Battery Life: Who Claims the Endurance Crown?
On the battery side of things, the Redmi A7 Pro pulls ahead with a huge 600mAh battery. The battery should last you a full day of use or even two days, depending on your usage, thanks to the IPS LCD panel, which has a lower resolution
The Itel A200, on the other hand, comes with a standard 5000mAh battery, which is not bad, but it won’t last for long compared to the Redmi.
Both support slow 15W charging speeds. On the Redmi A7 Pro, it can take up to 2 hours 40 minutes to fully charge the device from 0-100%, and the Itel A200 can take anywhere between 2 hours and 2 hours 30 minutes to fully charge, so you have to be patient while charging these devices.
Camera Quality: Which Phone Captures Better Photos?
Both phones have a 13MP camera at the rear. At the front, the Redmi A7 Pro has an 8MP selfie shooter, while the Itel A200 has a 5MP selfie shooter.
Both can record videos up to 1080p for both the front and selfie shooters.
Don’t expect the camera quality to be jaw-dropping, but for basic movies, taking basic photos, and scanning documents, it should be just fine.
Conclusion: Key Takeaways & Final Verdict
Buy the Redmi A7 Pro if you want a bigger screen for entertainment and a bigger battery. On the other hand, go for the Airtel A200 if you want better build quality. This would be a better buy for bodaboda riders, construction workers, or field agents who need that IP 65 rating and drop resistance from 1.8metres.
