With Android 17 nearing stability, many Infinix users and die-hards are unsure whether their phones will even get it. If you are looking for the official Infinix Android 17 update list, you need to check if your device made the cut for XOS 17

Android 17 has been in beta testing for months, especially on Pixel devices, from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 10.

When Infinix updates its eligible devices with a new OS, the company skins its own custom software called  XOS, and in this case, Android 17, and all eligible Infinix devices will come with a new XOS 17 skinned on top.

What to Expect from XOS 17 (Android 17

Android 17 is bringing a lot of impactful features that will make your experience on Android much better.

Liquid Glass Design & UI Overhaul

Google will make it easier to create widgets now, because instead of relying on developer widgets, Android 17 will now use on-device AI to let you generate custom widgets from scratch, for example, combining specific clock notifications and app shortcuts.

The system UI is also adopting a “Liquid Glass” look. Funny…I could swear I've heard that name somewhere before. Apple coughs.

Anyway, Google is retiring the classic flat emoji and is replacing it with a textured, lifelike 3D design similar to the iPhone.

AI Upgrades: Folax Assistant & Mind Hub

With Android 17, we expect even more deep Gemini AI integration from Google.

Starting with contextual autofill, Android will now automatically pull necessary data from Gmail, Google Wallet, and Google Photos to instantly populate instant web forms like booking or passport details.

Last year, Google introduced several AI-powered features, including agentic restaurant reservations, flight planning tools, and Canvas. These tools allow users to complete tasks more efficiently, for example, making restaurant bookings, finding suitable flight deals based on natural language prompts, and creating personalized travel plans.

With Android 17, Google is taking a step further by bringing more of these AI capabilities directly into the operating system.

One practical example is contextual autofill. When booking a flight, Android could automatically pull relevant information from services you already use, such as passport details from a document stored in Google Photos, contact information from Gmail, and payment details from Google Wallet.

By reducing the need to manually enter information, this feature can help minimize typing errors, save time, and make tasks such as travel bookings, registrations, and online applications far more convenient.

Infinix also has its own Folax AI tool built in, which is feature-packed with features such as smart call, offline functionality, which enables you to use Folax without the internet, smart touch, screen actions, writing, productivity tools, real-time translation, and AI generation.

There is also the highly anticipated Mind Hub, which is a centralised dashboard designed to automatically organise your AI-generated summaries, extracted links, and daily tasks.

To be honest, these Infinix AI features don’t actually compete with Samsung’s Galaxy AI or Google’s Gemini integration, and this is because they lack deep generative capabilities and ecosystem-wide integration that you get from Gemini or the heavy-hitting processing power from Galaxy AI.

Chrome assistant, finally, Google is bringing Chrome AI Assistant, where the browser will be able to handle multi-tab synthesis, summarising long pages, and generating compressions across open tabs without needing to switch back and forth.

True Multitasking & Lockscreen Widgets

Another useful addition in XOS 17 is improved multitasking through floating bubbles. Instead of relying only on split-screen mode or floating windows, you can keep up to five apps running in the background as small, collapsible bubbles. This makes it much easier to switch between apps like WhatsApp, X, and your browser without constantly reopening or reloading them.

XOS 17 also brings a more functional lock screen, where, with a simple swipe to the left, you can access a dedicated widget hub that lets you check your calendar, control music playback, view weather updates, and more, all without unlocking your phone.

It’s a small change, but one that can save time and make everyday tasks more convenient.

Infinix Software Update Policy Explained (2026)

A few years ago, I was a big fan of Infinix smartphones and regularly considered them when upgrading my phone. However, I eventually stopped buying Infinix devices, as well as Tecno phones, since both brands are owned by the same company.

One of the main reasons was their software support, which often lagged behind competitors in terms of Android updates and long-term security patches.

Your phone could be having issues, and the only way the issue can be fixed is via a software update, which you won’t be getting.

However, over the past few years, Infinix has been improving on their software support, focusing on some of its budget phones.

For instance, the newly launched Infinix Hote 70 will be getting 3 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates, which is very commendable.

Infinix should do the same to the Zero series and the standard NOTE series. I know it takes a lot of resources and manpower to push these stable updates, but if other companies can do it, such as Samsung and Xiaomi, Infinix has no reason not to support those devices for longer.

Expected XOS 17 Release Date

With  Google’s Android schedule release shifting, XOS 17 beta testing is expected to begin late Q3, with stable roll-outs starting between September and November 2026.

Conclusion

If you are holding onto an Infinix Smart or Hot 50 series device, then this is your call to upgrade to the Note 60 if you care about software longevity and security.
