Infinix HOT 70 Pro 5G: The Back That TALKS BACK?!
A few weeks after launching the Infinix Hot 70, Infinix has unveiled yet another lineup in the Hot 70 series: the Infinix Hot 70 Pro 5G.
From the name, this is the 5G version and the top-of-the-line of the Hot 70 series.
The Infinix Hot 70 Pro 5G has officially launched in Kenya, and we are already seeing units at retailers like Phone Place Kenya for around KES 37,999.
Is the Infinix Hot 70 Pro 5G Price in Kenya Justified?
The Infinix Hot 70 Pro retails for KES 37,999; however, this price might come down in a few weeks.
While deciding between early retail stock and waiting for the official launch, it all comes down to balancing immediate access against long-term support and value.
The Early Retail Route (Parallel Imports)
Pros
First mover advantage- You get the device in your hands immediately without waiting for the official regional release date.
Stand out- You get to own and experience the latest technology before it is widely available to the general public.
Cons
Premium pricing- independent retailers often mark up the price of early imported products, meaning you will likely pay more than the finalised local recommended retail price.
Warranty risks- local authorised service centres like Calcare do not cover parallel imports, and if the phone has a defect, you are only limited to the specific independent shops' return policy.
Official Local Launch
Pros
Guaranteed warranty- You get full peace of mind with a standard 12-month manufacturer warranty supported by local authorised centres.
Launch promotions- Official releases often come with bundled freebies such as smartwatches, earbuds, powerbanks or screen replacements, adding immediate value to your purchase.
Stable pricing- Once the device officially launches, the price stabilises at the manufacturer's RRP, protecting you from early-adopters markups.
Cons
Delayed gratification- You have to wait weeks or even months after the global announcements for the device to land on local shelves.
Unpacking the Infinix Hot 70 Pro 5G Specs (Data-Backed Analysis)
Starting off with the build, the Infinix Hot 70 Pro 5G is well built, featuring an IP 68 rating, and this is a massive deal for the sub KES 40,000, as many manufactures ted to use lower ratings to save on cost, but Infinix said, you know what, hold my beer.
Anyway, the IP68 dust and water resistance means you can dip the phone in water, take it for a swim, or shower and the phone will still be fine.
Dimensity 7100 & 144Hz Display
Under the hood, the Hot 70 Pro 5G has the Mediatek Dimensity 7100 (6nm), which is a fairly good processor.
On Geekbench results, the Dimensity 7100 scores 995 on single core-score and 2925 on multi core-score.
The Hot 70 Pro 5G will only include 256GB and 8GB RAM, and of course the RAM will be expandable.
Moving to the display, this is where the Hot 70 Pro 5G shines. The phone comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED 144Hz display paired with a fast 144Hz refresh rate, so expect fast scrolling and while playing games.
Active Matrix Cube
Infinix decided to do things a little differently at the rear of the device.
First of all, the phone comes in six colorways, and each one has its own personality.
We’ve got Night Pulse, which is a little black, Depth ring, Dive Blue, Silk Glow, Mirage Green and Thermo Orange.
The Thermo Orange is the one showing off because its back changes shade with temperature.
Now, back to the screen at the back, which Infinix calls the Active Matrix Cube does two things; first is the useful part because it can light up for calls, text, charging all at a glance and even when you are shooting a video, it will notify you that the vieo is being recorded.
There is the playful part: a couple of built-in games. There is a spin the wheel arrow which you can use to play spin the bottle, and a random number for settling small bets and even playing games that have dice.
You can even design your own light pattern and share it with another Hot 70 Pro 5G with a tap.
Many people may find this feature genuinely useful. However, for others including me the Active Matrix Cube feels more like a gimmick.
I rarely place my phone face down, so it's not something I would use often and as a result, the AMC doesn't add much practical value in my day-to-day experience.
The 50MP Sony IMX882 Sensor
At the back of the phone, one might think that the phone has three cameras, but the truth of the matter is that there are only two cameras, the third being the Active Matrix Cube.
Out of the remining two cameras, you will be using only one camera, the 50MP main lens; the other lens is a gimmick depth sensor.
At the front you get a 13MP selfie shooter.
The good thing is that Infinix has utilised a Sony IMX882 sensor and we expect good picture quality. I will do a full review of the cameras once we get our review unit.
Battery Dynamics: 6000mAh + 45W Charging
Powering the device is a huge 6000mAh battery paired with a 45W fast charger, which you actually gets inside the box.
While the 45W is good, it might take a bit of time to fill up that huge battery compared to rivals offering 67W.
There is also support for bypass charging for the gamers out there.
Infinix Hot 70 Pro 5G vs. Infinix Hot 70 4G
The main differences between the Hot 70 Pro 5G and the regular Hot 70 are in the processor, where the Pro has a much beefier Dimensity 7100, which is 5G, while the regular one Hot 70 has a Mediatek G100 (6nm) 4G.
The display on the Pro is an AMOLED panel, while that one on the base version is an LCD.
The build quality is also better on the Pro version with IP68 compared to IP65.
The cameras are also better on the Pro variant with a Sony IMX882, while that one on the regular Hot 70 is just a plain 50MP main. The selfie is also better on the Pro, featuring an 13MP vs an 8MP on the regular Hot 70.
Conclusion
The infinix Hot 70 Pro is a budget 5G phone with a back that changes color in UV light and a playful LED screen to go with it.
The phone comes with multiple colours to suit whoever you are and a back screen that ight fun to use for some.
Stick around for our review, as we will be diving into the specs and tell you whether it’s even worth considering the phone
