Redmi Note 17 Series July Launch Confirmed: Everything We Know So Far About Xiaomi's Next Budget Phones

Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the next generation of the Redmi lineup, the Redmi Note 17 series, will launch in China this July.

As you might have noticed, Xiaomi has skipped the 16 series lineup to align with the iPhone lineup. 

Xiaomi has also been taking a lot of inspiration from Apple, and they don’t try to hide it, which is a good thing; on the other hand, I think it’s killing innovation. I believe every company should be unique in its own way.

Anyway, the Redmi Note 17 series looks very promising this time around with 10,100 silicon-carbon batteries and huge 200MP main cameras; let's dive straight into it.

Flat 1.5K OLED Displays and Flagship Durability

Perhaps the biggest upgrade on the Redmi Note 17 Pro is the huge 9000mAh battery and a 10,100mAh battery on the ProMax, which is like having a powerbank in your pocket. 

This battery will take you through multiple days of use, especially if you are a casual user.

Keep in mind that these are the Chinese versions of these phones; the global versions might have slightly lower capacities because of strict international shipping regulations, a longer certification process, and regional design preferences.

At the front, both the Pro and the ProMax are expected to get a sharp 1.5k resolution LTPS 120Hz display.

The major shift in the display front is that we are getting flat panels compared to the curved panels that we have been getting over the years.

I actually prefer flat panels as compared to curved ones mainly because of high repair costs and accidental screen touches, so using flat panels is a welcome move by Xiaomi.

On the protection, we again expect IP 68/69 dust- and water-resistant.

Camera Upgrades: From 50MP to 200MP

The Pro model is expected to feature a 50MP main camera; we don’t know about the ultra-wide camera, but we expect an 8MP ultra-wide lens and macro lens.

At the front, we might get a 32MP selfie camera. In regard to video recording, we expect 4K recording on the main camera only.

The Pro Max, on the other hand, will have 200MP according to the leaker, and it will feature dual speakers.

Just like the Pro model, we expect 4k recording on only the main camera and 1080p on the selfie camera.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 vs. Dimensity 7500 Processing Power

Under the hood, the Pro model will pack the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 (4nm) SOC, which is a new processor that was launched this year.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 launches apps up to 20% faster and reduces stuttering by 18% compared to the previous-generation Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. 

Qualcomm says these improvements are powered by its Snapdragon Smooth Motion technology, which helps deliver a more fluid everyday experience.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 also supports Bluetooth 6.0 and Wi-Fi 7, enabling tri-band Wi-Fi connectivity for faster, more reliable wireless performance.

The Mediatek 7500 has bluetooth 5.4 and WI-FI 6.

The Promax, on the other hand, is expected to be powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 7500 (4nm), and Mediatek claims that it offers between 5% and 9% power efficiency.

The Dimensity 7500 will only have WI-FI 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 

Expected Release Date and Pricing Realities

With Xiaomi now confirming a July launch in China, the Redmi Note 17 series is expected to make its global debut, including in Kenya, around January 2027.

We expect to see the Pro model launch for about KES 45,000-50,000, and the Promax model should retail between KES 50,000-60,000.
