Xiaomi's upcoming REDMI 17 4G has moved one step closer to launch after receiving certification from Malaysia's SIRIM authority.
Listed under the model number 2606FRN72Y, the certification not only confirms the device's existence but also verifies several of its key specifications ahead of its official debut.
The REDMI 17 will be suitable for students, first-time smartphone buyers, and gig workers.
The phone will have a huge 7,500mAh battery paired with a 45W fast charger, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, and out-of-the-box Android 16 on top of Xiaomi’s own Hyper OS 3.
Detailed Redmi 17 4G Specs: A Giant Battery Meets Durable Hardware
The Redmi 17 will come with IP64 dust and splash resistance and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, which we normally see in upper-midrange phones.
The phone is 8.8mm thick, and given that huge battery, that thickness is acceptable. It weighs 232 g, which is a bit on the heavier side, mainly due to the huge battery.
The Redmi 17 comes in three color ways: Oak Green, Deep Blue, and Black, Lotus Purple, and at the camera island there is a dynamic RGB feature.
Display & Visual Experience: 6.9-Inch 120Hz Giant
The display is a huge 6.9-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1600 by 720, and it refreshes at 120 Hz, which is great for scrolling the UI and while playing games.
The peak brightness can go up to 875 nits, and since it’s a budget phone, that’s what we get.
The REDMI 17 includes some goodies such as TÜVRheinland Low Blue Light (Software solution) Certified. This certification reduces harmful blue light emissions using software algorithms rather than hardware filters.
There is also TÜV Rheinland Circadian-friendly certification, which ensures that the phone has low blue light during the day and helps promote better sleep at night.
Then there is TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free Certified, which means that the display of the REDMI 17 doesn’t have invisible flashing lights that can hurt your eyes.
While the HD+ keeps the cost down, the 120Hz refresh rate makes daily scrolling feel fast and responsive.
Performance & Software: Helio G91-Ultra & HyperOS 3
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra (12nm), which is a very similar processor to the Helio G81, at least according to benchmark results.
The G91-Ultra should deliver solid day-to-day activities such as scrolling Instagram, chatting on WhatsApp, and sme light gaming, but it might struggle while playing 3D games.
On the storage front, it comes with 4GB RAM + 128GB, 4GB RAM + 256GB, 6GB RAM + 128GB, and 6GB RAM + 256GB, and the RAM can be expanded up to 12GB with memory expansion.
On the software, the phone will ship with Android 16 on top of Hyper OS 3.
Unbeatable Endurance: 7,500mAh Battery & 45W Fast Charging
Perhaps the biggest highlight of this phone is the huge 7500mAh battery. This battery should last you a few days of use, depending on your usage. Once we get our review unit, we will put that battery to the test, so stay tuned for that.
It comes with a 45W fast charger.
Cameras: 50MP AI Dual System
At the back, there is a 50MP main camera with a 5P glass element and a gimmicky auxiliary lens; at the front, we get an 8MP selfie shooter, and that’s it.
Both the front and rear cameras can record videos up to 1080p.
Conclusion & Verdict
Key Takeaways:
- Pros: Monster 7,500mAh battery life, sturdy Gorilla Glass 7i build, smooth 120Hz display, 45W fast charging, shipped with HyperOS 3
- Cons: HD+ resolution on a large 6.9-inch panel, 4G-only connectivity, heavier profile (232g).
The REDMI 17 is an absolute battery champion, which is made for people who spend long hours away from power outlets, such as boda boda riders and cab-hailing drivers, also for those who work on the go and for those who prioritise durability over high-end mobile gaming.
