New itel Power 80 Arrives in Kenya with a 7,000mAh Battery and Tough Design
Itel has just dropped the Power 80 in the Kenyan market, a sub-KES 18,000 phone packing a huge 7,000mAh battery, military-grade drop resistance, and a 120Hz refresh rate display, but is it all hype, or does it actually eliminate your battery anxiety for good?
Itel Power 80 Price in Kenya and Availability
The Itel Power 80 retails for KES 17,500 for the 4GB RAM, 64GB model. The phone can also be configured with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
The Power 80 will be available at major retail chain stores, such as Jumia, Phoneplace Kenya, and Safaricom, and the phone comes with an included 1-year warranty.
Unbeatable Battery Life: 7,000mAh & Reverse Charging
Perhaps one of the biggest selling points of this phone is the huge 7000mAh battery. This battery is suitable for Uber and boda boda riders; the phone will last for hours before they can charge it again, and this is coupled with an HD+ display, which will propel the battery to last even 2 days of use depending on the usage.
Itel has also included self-repair technology, meaning that for every 200 cycles, the battery automatically performs a self-repair process, reducing up to 24% of battery degradation and extending overall lifespan.
There is an included 18W charger; it should take 1 hour and 30 minutes to fill up the phone, which is on the slower side, making overnight charging essential.
On the positive side, there is reverse-wired charging, turning the phone into an emergency power bank.
Built Like a Tank: IP68, IP69, and Military-Grade Toughness
Another standout feature of the Itel Power 80 is its surprisingly premium durability.
According to Itel, the phone is built to withstand drops of up to 2 metres thanks to its SGS five-star drop-resistance certification. It also carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, allowing it to survive immersion in up to 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes.
On top of that, it meets the MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability standard, adding an extra layer of protection for everyday use, good for boda boda riders who are prone to dropping their phones.
Display & Performance: Smooth 120Hz Meets Everyday Efficiency
6.78-Inch 120Hz Display
The Power 80 has a 6.78-inch LCD display paired with a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel is only HD+ resolution, which we have come to accept at this price point, although Itel hasn’t specified the type of glass being used, we suspect it’s a lower-tier glass.
The compromise of this display is the 720p HD+ panel; even though it keeps the battery usage low, it trades off high sharpness.
Unisoc T7250 & Android 16
Under the hood, the Power uses the Unisoc T7250 (12nm), which is similar to the MediaTek Helio G81 and the G85 processors, which tells you that the processor is efficient in light tasks only.
According to benchmark results, the processor scores 437 points on Geekbench and 1461 points
Out of the box, the phone runs on Android 16 on top of Itel OS 16, and this phone probably might not get any major OS updates given Itel’s history of software updates.
50MP Camera and Connectivity
Moving on to the cameras, you get a 50MP main camera, and at the front you get an 8MP selfie shooter
The 50MP will be great for scanning documents and taking simple pictures during the day.
Both the rear and the front-facing cameras can record videos up to 1080p at 30 fps.
4G Network & Extra Hardware Features
The Itel Power 80 supports 4G network connectivity with dual SIMs.
There is an included headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a built-in IR remote control.
Conclusion & Final Verdict
Key Takeaways Checklist:
Huge 7000mAh battery with reverse wired charging capability.
Ruggedized Body: IP68/IP69 water resistance and 2m drop rating rarely seen at KSh KES 17,000
Fluid Display: 120Hz refresh rate makes daily scrolling smooth.
Trade-offs: 720p resolution display and slow 18W charging cycles.
I would recommend the Itel Power 80 specifically to field workers, boda boda riders, and Uber drivers, or anyone prioritizing durability and a long battery life over 4k gaming, a premium display, or 4k recording.
