Tecno Pova Curve 2 5G Launches in Kenya With a Massive 8,000mAh Battery

Imagine a phone that can last up to two days of use on a single charge, but it’s somehow thinner than most standard smartphones on the market; yes, that’s the Tecno Pova Curve 2.

The Pova lineup has been launching in countries like India and skipping Kenya, but this time, Tecno has brought the new Tecno Pova  Curve 2 smartphone featuring a huge 8000mAh battery.

The recommended retail price of the Tecno Pova Curve 2 5G is KES 59,999.

What Makes the Tecno Pova Curve 2 Stand Out?

There is no doubt that the biggest selling feature of the Pova Curve 2 is its 8000mAh battery fitted in a small chassis; the phone only measures 7.4mm thick and weighs just 195g.

To put this into perspective, the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a 4823mAh battery for the non-eSIM model, and it is 8.8mm thick and weighs 233g, so clearly Tecno has put in some craftsmanship in the Curve 2.

The 8000 mAh Battery & 45W Fast Charging Explained

Powering the phone is a huge 8000mAh battery; Tecno claims up to 3 days of use and up to 18.8 hours of gaming. Those are some big claims, but we will put that to the test once we get our review unit.

When it comes to charging, the Curve 2 supports up to 45w fast charging, and it comes with the charger inside the box.

According to Tecno lab testing, the phone can charge from 0-50% in 36 minutes, so that means a full charge will take anywhere between 70-90 minutes.

There is also support for bypass charging, which is an added bonus for gamers.

Performance & Display: Built for the Modern User

144Hz Curved AMOLED Experience

The display is another area that I was really impressed with. It has a 6.78-inch slightly curved AMOLED 144Hz display and a peak brightness of up to 4500nits.

There is 2304Hz PWM dimming for those with sensitive eyes at night. The display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

One gimmicky feature, though, is the 144Hz refresh rate, because not every app is going to utilise the full 144Hz; only a few.

MediaTek Dimensity 7100 & Gaming Potential

Under the hood, the phone is driven by the Mediatek Dimensity 7100 (6nm), the same chipset we get in its bigger sibling, the Infinix Hot 70 Pro 5G.

The phone should handle your daily regular tasks with no issues; also, the phone should handle gaming as well, with games such as Call of Duty and PUBG.

The phone has various storage options, including 128GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 8GB RAM, and 256GB 12GB RAM, but here in Kenya we are likely getting the 256GB 12GB RAM option.

Camera Quality: Does the 50MP Sensor Deliver?

At the back, the phone features a 50MP main camera and a 2MP macro lens, which has been added for aesthetics. At the front, you get a 13MP selfie shooter.

You should expect good photos from the main camera, especially in well-lit environments; the same case with the selfie shooter.

The rear camera can record videos in up to 2 K resolution with no OIS, of course, and the selfie camera can record at 1080p.

I think on the camera side of things is where Tecno had to cut corners.

Tecno Pova Curve 2 Price in Kenya & Availability

The Tecno Pova Curve 2 will start at KES 59,999 for the 256GB 12GB RAM, and it comes in three colors: Melting silver, Purple and Titanium.

The phone is currently on pre-order for KES 2,000 across all Tecno official retail stores, online stores, operator partners and authorised dealers.

Conclusion

Key takeaways

The Tecno Pova Curve 2 5G is suitable for ride-hailing drivers because of the big battery, boda boda riders, and media bingers who hate power banks.
