Samsung is rumored to be equipping the Galaxy A08 with a 6,000 mAh battery and pairing it with the MediaTek Helio G99, but without an upgrade to its modest charging curve, the extra screen comes with a multi-hour wall-time penalty.

Confirmed regulatory filings from Brazil’s Anatel and the FCC reveal that Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy A08 4G jumps from 5000mAh capacity to a typical rated 5,830mAh (Marked as 6000mAh) battery pack.

Regulatory Filings Unpack the 6,000mAh Jump

The A08 will have a rated battery capacity of 5,830mAh, standardized as a typical 6000mAh capacity; nonetheless, that is a huge upgrade from the 5000mAh we got on the A07.

This shows that Samsung is breaking the entry-level tradition of reserving 5,000mAh strictly for the M-series, and for many people, especially here in Kenya, the bigger battery will go a long way in helping those who work in areas where they are rarely near a socket, like boda-boda riders and cab riders.

Helio G99 Efficiency Meets High-Capacity Silicon

It seems like Samsung still has a lot of stock inventory of the Helio G99 chips left, because this chipset has been used with quite a number of budget phones dating back to the Galaxy A16, A17, A07, the rumored Galaxy A18, and now it’s set to be used on the A08.

Anyway, the chipset is still very capable for light tasks such as social media scrolling and playing light games, thanks to its 6nm architecture, which also allows for efficiency.

According to benchmark results, the G99 scores 554590 on AnTuTu, and on Geekbench 6 the chip scores 727 on single-core score and 2047 on multi-core score.

I have been using the Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G, which has the Helio G99, and the performance has been good but not the best. When playing games such as Call of Duty, the frame rate is around 55- 60 fps; other activities like scrolling through the web work just fine, but with a few stutters, especially when scrolling through Google Discover.

The Helio G99 paired with a 6,000mAh battery looks like a solid combination for battery life. It should comfortably get you through a full day of normal use, and potentially longer if you’re a lighter user.

Samsung’s software optimization should also help squeeze a bit more endurance out of the battery.

The 15W–25W Bottleneck: The Hidden Cost of a 6,000mAh Pack

Of course, Samsung had to cut corners; according to the FCC reports, the A08 will have 15W with an outside chance of 25W PPS support.

With such a big battery, it might take well over 2hours 30minutes to fully charge the phone, so you have to be very patient while charging, and even better, charging overnight seems to be the best option.

Adding insult to injury, there is no charger included in the box; you have to buy one separately, which will cost around KES 1,500-2,500, or if you have one, even better.

Regional Rivalry: Galaxy A08 vs. Transsion’s Budget Kings

Comparing Samsung with budget phones from Transsion, the Infinix Hot 50 and the Tecno Spark 40, there doesn't seem to be a huge upgrade compared to the A08, apart from the design, where the phones from Transsion have the modern punch-hole selfie camera, and the A08 will still feature the older teardrop notch.

Where Samsung pulls ahead is on the software, where the A08 will get 6 years of guaranteed software support.

Both of the two Transsion phones pull ahead when it comes to charging, since they include fast chargers in the box.

Audience Split: Who Is the Galaxy A08 Actually For?

Buy/Wait If: You are an endurance-first user, field agent, or college student upgrading from an older A03/A04 who values multi-year OS stability, clean software, and a 2-day battery (depending on your usage) over gaming or rapid charging.

Hold Off If: You need quick 30-minute top-ups before heading out, or prefer high refresh-rate gaming where faster storage and bundled accessories are a priority.

Buy Instead (Current Alternative): If buying today, the Infinix Hot 50 4G provides faster charging out of the box with an adapter included, while a discounted Galaxy A16 provides an AMOLED display and guaranteed 6-year software support.
