Redmi 17 4G vs Realme C100D: Specs, Battery, & Value Compared
Budget phones are quietly undergoing a battery arms race, pushing capacities past 7,500mAh without breaking the $150 barrier. Now, between the Xiaomi Redmi 17 4G and the just-released Realme C100D, a lot of buyers will be faced with giant screens and multi-day endurance, but each brand makes very different compromises under the hood and in storage.
It’s worth noting that you won’t find the Realme C100D on the internet, and that is because the C100D, or model code RMX5363, is an internal variant suffix, whereas commercial retailers and global spec databases list the phone simply as the Realme C100. Upon closer inspection, the Realme C100D shares most of the specs with the Realme C100x.
REDMI 15 4G vs REDMI 17 4G: Redmi 15 4G vs Redmi 17 4G: Why the Older Model Might Be Your Smarter Upgrade
Two Approaches to Maximum Endurance: 7,500mAh vs. 8,000mAh
Most of Xiaomi’s smartphones right now have a bigger battery, and not only that, those batteries use the new battery technology called silicon-carbon, which means you can have a bigger battery that can fit in a small chassis, just like the Redmi 17 4G with a 7,500mAh capacity.
Similarly, Realme is using the same strategy, fitting a bigger 8,000mAh battery inside a small chassis while also maintaining a slimmer profile.
Both are capped at 45W wired charging, which means they can take a bit of time to fully juice up, probably around 1 hour 30 minutes.
Both phones support reverse wired charging, but the Redmi 17 4G supports up to 22.5W reverse wired charging for charging our accessories and backup phones via USB C to C.
They should last you through a full day of use, depending on your usage, although the slightly bigger 8,000mAh battery on the Realme C100D should push a little further.
For many Kenyans, and especially boda-boda riders and cab drivers who have a busy schedule and might be near a socket, these two phones are well suited for them.
Display Realities: 6.9 vs 6.8 Inches and the HD+ Dilemma
On the display front, the REDMI comes in with a bigger 6.9-inch IPS LCD panel, 720p resolution, paired with a 120Hz refresh rate and 825 nits peak brightness, while on the other hand the Realme features a 6.8-inch IPS LCD panel, 720p resolution paired with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1200 nits peak brightness.
In the display department, the Realme has a slight edge because of the higher peak brightness.
Silicon & Sustained Performance: Helio G91 Ultra vs Realme’s Helio G92 Max
Under the hood, both of these phones share almost the same processors but with different names. The REDMI 17 4G is powered by the MediaTek Helio G91 (12nm), while the Realme C100D is powered by the MediaTek Helio G92 Max. What’s the difference, you ask? Well, the G92 Max has a slightly faster GPU clock speed and better multi-core benchmark scores than the Helio G91.
This is also evident when you look at the benchmark results: the G92 Max scores 370885 on AnTuTu, while the G91 scores 354158, so the G92 Max is 5% faster. In Geekbench 6, the G92 scores 436 on single-core score and 1356 on multi-core score, while the Helio G91 scores 405 on single-core score and 1407 on multi-core score, so the G92 Max is 8% faster on single-core score, while the G91 is 4% faster on multi-core score.
However, you should not let the numbers fool you because, in real-life usage, they should perform almost the same. Also, the “Max” on the G92 is just there for marketing and doesn’t bring any incremental value compared to the G92.
For social media scrolling, making calls, playing casual games, and watching videos, both should handle the tasks pretty well, but both phones will struggle when you are playing heavy titles such as Genshin Impact or editing 4 K videos.
On the storage front, the REDMI 17 4G comes in four storage configurations: 128GB 4GB RAM, 128GB 6GB RAM, 256GB 4GB RAM, and 256GB 6GB RAM.
The Realme, on the other hand, comes with two storage configurations, at least here in Kenya: 4GB 128GB and 6GB 128GB, and both have eMMC 5.1, which is slower than the UFS storage that we are used to.
When picking either of the two phones, I usually recommend going for the one with the highest RAM for a better experience.
Optics & Imaging: 50MP Main Sensors in Practice
On the camera side of things, both of these phones have a 50MP main camera; the REDMI has an 8MP selfie camera, while the Realme features a 5MP selfie camera.
When you look at the back of both phones, you might think that they have two cameras, but the other extra circles are just for aesthetics; one circle in particular on the REDMI serves a different purpose: dynamic RGB light that can light up to show notifications, charging status, game lighting effects, and a camera status indicator.
When it comes to video recording, they both record videos up to 1080p, which is expected on budget phones.
The front-facing cameras are good mainly for video calls and casual social clips.
Ergonomics, Chassis Build, and Durability Ergonomics, Chassis Build, and Durability
On the build, the Redmi wins here; it has IP 64 for dust and water splashes, and the front display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, can survive drops from 2 m, and it is MIL-STD-810H certified.
On the other hand, the Realme has Armorshell glass, which is less durable than the 7i; it is IP 64 certified for dust and water splashes, it can also survive drops from 2 m, and it is MIL-STD-810H certified.
The REDMI is slightly heavier at 232 g despite having a slightly smaller battery, while the Realme is 219g with its big battery.
One useful feature that only the REDMI has is an IR blaster for controlling your appliances.
Both have a plastic back and frame.

Audience & Next Steps
Buy the REDMI 17 4G if: You want better drop protection, use your phone as an emergency power bank via 22.5 reverse wired charging, and value hardware extras like an IR blaster and rear notification light.
Buy the Realme C100D 4G if: Pure off-the-grid stamina is your number one priority (8,000mAh battery) and you prefer a slightly narrower, more manageable hand grip.
Skip both if: You need 5G speeds, play graphically intensive 3D games, or require high-resolution 1080p display sharpness for detailed productivity work.
Conclusion & Final Verdict
When choosing between the two, processor performance isn't really the deciding factor because both phones sit in roughly the same entry-level performance class, so the bigger question is what you value more.
The Realme C100D has the edge if battery life is your top priority, thanks to its larger 8,000mAh battery. The REDMI 17 4G, however, offers a more well-rounded feature set, with Gorilla Glass 7i protection, 22.5W reverse wired charging, and a few useful connectivity features that the Realme doesn't offer.
