Following much anticipation and social media buzz, Vivo has unveiled the Vivo v30 5G in Kenya. Positioned at a competitive price point, the device is set to face intense competition from other brands in the Kenyan market. Let's delve deeper into the details of the Vivo v30 5G in this article.

Key Feature Highlights

“Aura Light Portrait” Camera Tech

Vivo is renowned for its innovative approach, particularly in the camera department, and the Vivo V30 5G is no exception. The V30 5G features a unique one-piece cloud-step design located just below the main camera system.

It boasts an aura light that is 19 times larger and 50 times softer compared to a standard flash. This advanced lighting system can intelligently adjust its brightness based on the distance and brightness of the subject.

Moreover, the color temperature can be fine-tuned to create a cool or warm light effect, or it can be set to auto mode, allowing the camera system to automatically determine the optimal brightness and temperature settings for any given scene.

Above the Aura Light is a 50MP main shooter, and a 50MP ultra-wide lens, at the front we get a 50MP selfie shooter. The rear main camera has optical image stabilization which means you are going to get steady videos as you record and clear photos as you take pictures of fast-moving things such as cats and dogs.

Both the rear and selfie cameras can be able to record videos up to 4k at 30 fps however the videos recorded at 4k are stabilized electronically (EIS). The 50MP selfie camera can capture ultra-wide shots up to 92 degrees.

120Hz 3D Curved Screen

On the display side of things is where the Vivo V30 5G has a lot to go for. The display measures a huge 6.78 inches 3D curved AMOLED screen paired with a fast 120Hz refresh rate however, it doesn’t support LTPO technology meaning it won’t be able to dial down to 1 Hz to save energy, it only dials down to 60Hz.

The display is very bright outdoors, with a peak brightness of 2800 nits and a manual brightness that can go up to 1000 nits, so you shouldn’t have any trouble using it indoors or outdoors.

It supports HDR 10+, which means the quality of videos and images is improved, making them more realistic and vivid with deeper blacks and brighter highlights. The display of the phone is one of the best you can get for this price.

Premium Design That Stands out

The Vivo V30 5g has a pretty unique design all around. At the back there is a camera module and right below it there is an Aura light, the frames are plastic while both the front and back are made of glass.

At the bottom, there is a Type-C charging port, and a speaker grill unfortunately there is no headphone jack included.

One of the standout features for me is the minimal bezels all around the phone. In comparison, other smartphones, like the Samsung A55, which is priced almost the same as the Vivo V30 5G, have very chunky bezels, making them look more like budget phones.

Vivo decided not to go for corning gorilla glass protection but a very unfamiliar type of glass called Schott Alpha which promises extra durability.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Power

Under the hood, the phone features a decent snapdragon 7 Gen 3 which will handle many tasks with ease but don’t expect it to perform very well in the gaming department as this phone isn’t meant for gaming, however in tasks such as social media scrolling, recording 4k videos and taking pictures, multitasking and light gaming will work very well.

The Snapdragon 7th Gen 3 is manufactured using a 4nm node architecture for improved power efficiency and performance. Additionally, it supports 5G and WI-FI 6 which is increasingly common among midrange devices.

On the storage front, the phone comes with 256 GB of storage and 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM which can be further expanded to 12GB making the total 24GB for easier multitasking.

Why Choose the Vivo V30 5G?

The Vivo V30 5G is a sleek and premium phone with minimal bezels, allowing for a larger screen and a more compact overall size, making it feel great in the hand.

The choice of the Snapdragon chipset by Vivo would be an easy recommendation for a person who wants to play multiple games with minimal lags, this is because most game developers tend to optimize smartphones that have Snapdragon SOCs as compared to those with Mediatek SOCs.

The V30 5G camera is impressive, as per some reviews I've watched. The 50MP captures high-resolution photos and also supports 12.5MP downsizing. Additionally, it can take photos with two times lossless zoom.

When recording videos in 4K, the Vivo V30 5G offers Electronic Image Stabilization which is not commonly seen in many mid-range smartphones. This feature helps to produce well-stabilized videos. Additionally, the Aura light of the phone allows for good photo quality in any lighting condition.

If you are someone who only upgrades their smartphone occasionally, the Vivo V30 5G is a great option. It offers 3 years of software updates, which will keep the phone feeling new even after a few years.

The 5000mAh battery should last you a full day, depending on your usage. Additionally, you don't have to worry about running out of power, as it supports 80W fast charging which can juice up the phone in minutes and it supports reverse wired charging.

Drawbacks of The Vivo V30 5G

The  Vivo V30 5G has a set of drawbacks that would make you look elsewhere. First of the price, for KES.64,999 is too expensive.

The processor is not as powerful as the competition, the 7 Gen 3 will handle your daily tasks well but don’t expect it to play heavy titles at high frame rates.

The phone only comes with an IP 54 rating which will protect the phone against dust particles and water splashes, however for the asking price and compared the phone to the competition, an IP 68 rating would have been much better, so don’t go showering or swimming with the Vivo V30 5G.

Where to Buy

If you are interested in purchasing the V30 5G, then you can visit Vivo's official retail shops in the country or online stores such as Jumia and Kilimall.
