Is the Vitron v5201 Worth It?Comprehensive Sound System Review.
I've been on the hunt for a new sound system for my desk setup. I wanted to create a nice workspace, and what's a desk setup without a good home audio system to keep me in the right mood?
After two weeks of comparing different types of speakers, I decided to go with the Vitron V5201. Now, let's dive straight into it and see if it was worth the purchase.
Unboxing the Vitron v5201: First Impressions
Inside the box, you will find a subwoofer along with two satellite speakers, a remote, a user manual, a cable for connecting the main subwoofer to the satellite speakers, and a warranty card. The subwoofer and the satellite speakers are well-packaged with shock absorbers to prevent any damage.
Build Quality and Design
The construction of the Vitron v5201 is really good. However, it's unclear what material it is built from. Mine seems to be sturdy, and I haven't had any issues with the adhesive coming off, as some other users who bought the same sound system have experienced.
My unit came in black. The two satellite speakers have a nice circular orange tint, which looks outstanding. On the side of the subwoofer, there is a USB port and an SD card reader, features commonly found in budget sound systems.
At the front of the subwoofer, you get a single blue LED light and a small display to display your mode in the volume level. It has four control buttons.
The first button changes the mode, allowing you to switch from FM radio to AUX mode, Play Station 3 mode, and Bluetooth. The other three buttons are for rewinding, pausing, and skipping to the next track, respectively. Below these buttons, there is a volume knob for adjusting the volume up or down.
At the back of the subwoofer, you get a power switch, and power cord which provide the electrical current necessary to operate all components.
Setting the Vitron v5201. Ease of Installation
Step-by-step guide
Setting up the v5201 is pretty much straightforward, however, it’s advisable to follow the steps given to you so you don’t make the mistake of inserting cables where they should not be inserted. Here is a guide on how to do the installation.
- Place the main box in the middle, place the auxiliary box on both sides, then connect it to the host signal input line. Beware of a short circuit between the two joints.
- Insert the main box input signal line into the corresponding audio output of the personal computer or other audio equipment
- After checking the system connection, plug the power plug of the main box into the power socket of ```````~220v 50Hz and turn on the power switch
- Adjust the volume according to your preferences until the desired effect is obtained.
- When using the end, turn off the power switch and pull off the power plug.
I really like the minimal look of the interface. The remote is small, compact, and easy to hold. It has a range of 5 meters and a 30-degree angle, so you don't have to point it directly at the subwoofer to make it work.
Sound Quality: A Deep Dive
Now, the sound quality, which is the most important aspect when selecting a sound system, and the Vitron v5201 doesn’t disappoint.
Best performance
When searching for a sound system, I prioritized finding one with good bass, as the bass plays a crucial role in music and video enjoyment.
The bass is clearly audible even at the lowest and highest volumes, with minimal distortion. To thoroughly test the bass, I listened to different genres of music, and the one that stood out to me was Dancehall. The sound was crisp, with deep bass and clear vocals.
On the other hand, the Gengetone genre, which is very popular here in Kenya, has a bit of distortion. I even had to install an equalizer extension on Chrome to balance how the sound comes out since the built-in equalizer didn't have much of an impact.
The other genre that had some distortions while testing out was R&B, and more specifically, throwback R&B.
Mid & High Frequencies
The speaker handles mids and highs really well, except when you increase the volume to the maximum, you will start experiencing distortions. For the best experience, I would recommend sticking to the mid-range, as that seems to be the sweet spot.
Volume distortion
I've noticed that the volume distorts when playing certain genres of music, especially at high volume. However, when I reduce the volume, the distortion isn't as noticeable. I discovered that the distortion is minimal when using Spotify, likely because it has a built-in equalizer. With Spotify, I was able to adjust the equalizer and find a better balance, unlike with YouTube music.
When setting up the sound system, I made sure to adjust the volume on my laptop and the music streaming app to achieve the best sound output. However, I encountered an issue when I turned off the subwoofer before leaving.
It produced a popping sound that was reminiscent of an electrical shot. I was initially alarmed, but even after toggling the power, the popping sound persisted. I've come to understand that these pops are normal and do not affect the performance of the sound system or cause any damage.
Another issue that I had with the subwoofer and the two satellite speakers is the electronic hiss when idle, it might not bother you but it's worth mentioning.
Extra Features: Added Value
FM radio and Remote Control
The v5201 includes an FM radio, although not many people listen to the radio these days. However, the radio in this sound system is of good quality, even though not all radio stations may be available, so please keep that in mind. You can use the remote to change the station.
I noticed that when the system is at its lowest volume and you turn on the radio, it's still very loud.
LED Lights and Display
The sound system has only one display, which lights up blue. I think it's pointless since it doesn't have any function. The display above the control buttons shows the volume level and the mode that you're in.
Pros and Cons: The Verdict
What we Loved
The Vitron v5201 is such a good sound for the asking price of only KES. 4,500-KES. 5,000. The sound quality is great. It has a signal-to-noise ratio of 68db, where the signal-to-noise ratio is the measure of how much-desired signal is present to the level of background noise.
Additionally, it offers a sound separation of 45db, enabling the reproduction of distinct audio channels and enhancing clarity, which is crucial for preventing audio overlap and creating an immersive experience for movies, games, and music.
The sound system is great for large spaces. When I first got it, I turned the volume up to the max, and a few minutes later my neighbors complained outside for me to lower the volume. So, expect good loudness with decent bass. The bass is very punchy.
I really like the design of the product. It's pleasant to look at, unique, and not too heavy at only 5 kilograms. The overall aesthetics are nice. Additionally, it has an equalizer with up to 6 levels, which is quite rare to find in budget systems.
Areas of improvement
There are areas where Vitron could have improved with the Vitron V5201. For example, some videos and song genres are prone to distortion, which makes the listening experience unpleasant.
They should address the popping sound when turning off the sound system and the electronic hissing when the system is not in use but still on. Additionally, they should expand the number of available FM radio stations, as the current selection is limited.
Final Thoughts: Is the Vitron v5201 Worth It?
If you're looking for affordable multimedia speakers that produce good sound, I recommend the Vitron v5201. I was impressed by the way it handled mids and highs and the overall audio output.
Conclusion: Summing Up the Vitron v5201 Experience
Recommendation
The Vitron v5201 speakers are well-suited for those with large rooms as they can get quite loud at maximum volume.
They are also a great option for anyone in search of high-quality multimedia speakers for listening to music or watching movies without spending a fortune. You can buy this multimedia system from Jumia.
