Lighting Up My Work Space: Desk Lamp Insights.

Over the past few months, I've searched for a desk lamp for my new office setup. The bulb I used was very bright and hurt my eyes, especially when working late at night.

So, I decided to look for an adjustable desk lamp with different light modes for eye protection. I finally found this desk lamp, which surprisingly doesn't have a name.

I chose this desk lamp because it has non-flickering LEDs for eye protection. It also has a clamp that allows me to attach it to my desk, and it can rotate 360 degrees with a beam angle of 120 degrees.

The primary goal of this blog is to provide insights into the effectiveness of a desk lamp and its benefits compared to traditional lighting options.

It is particularly suitable for office workers and students. The lamp can be used for night lighting and offers customizable lighting modes.

Overview of the Desk Lamp

First Impressions 

The unboxing experience is pretty straightforward. The desk lamp comes in a simple box wrapped in protective wrapping paper.

Inside the box, you get the desk lamp itself and the instructions manual and that’s it.

When I unboxed it at first, it looked very different from the one I had initially seen on the online store because it was folded, after setting it up it now looked more like it.

Design and Build quality

Material and Durability

The design and the build quality are very sturdy since it has a metal and an aluminum build, which means that it will be able to last for longer without bending, however, the aluminum build can be very fragile if you try and forcefully bend it.

Unless you are doing a durability test you should not try bending it.

Aesthetic Appeal

The design of the lamp is good, not jawdropping but it looks and feels good. You of course get the headlamp which illuminates the light.

It has a clamp for attaching to your office desk and it holds on firmly, apart from illuminating your desk setup, it also gives it a nice look.

Adjustability and flexibility

When I was looking for a desk lamp I had to make sure that it was fully adjustable to suit my needs and this one did not disappoint.

The upper arm which holds the LED head can be adjusted up to 270 degrees the same as the middle arm. You can lean it forward and backward and bend the LED head to focus only on a specific area on your desk.

The base can rotate 360 degrees, and I initially didn't think it would be useful, but I found myself using it frequently.

The attached arm can also be adjusted up to 270 degrees, providing great comfort while working.

Performance 

Brightness and Light Quality

The brightness and light quality are excellent. I rarely say this when reviewing a gadget, but it's just the way I like it. Firstly, it can be adjusted in 3 modes: white light, daylight, and warm light. Each of these modes has 10 brightness levels, allowing you to choose the best option for your eyes.

It can go as deem as 10 percent and as high as 100 percent. Surprisingly it can light a whole room, I tried it in my room and I was just impressed I went ahead and removed my bulb light I didn’t need it anymore.

There are different color temperature modes that you can use. The warm light has a color temperature ranging from 3000-3200k, natural light ranges from 4500-5500k, and cold light ranges from 6500-7000k. So, what do these numbers mean? According to wacelighting LED lights typically range from 1650k (warmest) to 6000k (coolest).

The correlated color temperature (CCT) describes the color of white light emitted by a bulb. A CCT of 1800k and 2700k indicates warmer light, while a CCT of 4500k or lower represents natural light. A CCT above 4500k or 5000k indicates cold light.

For the last four months I've had this desk lamp it hasn't flickered at all, which is easy on the eyes.

Ease of use

Upon unboxing, I was a bit confused about how to unfold it, I didn’t want to bend it and possibly damage it, however upon a few attempts I was finally able to unfold it and attach it to my desk, I did it without using the included manual, but I recommend reading the manual as you set it up.

The desk lamp is equipped with a remote control for adjusting brightness, changing color modes, and powering on and off. The remote is connected to the power cable.

You can keep the LED head lighting with the previous settings when turning it on again, but the memory setting will reset if it's turned off from the power supply or disconnected.

Energy Efficient

The lamp has a USB type-A cable which is the main power supply with a power input of 5V/2A which I consider energy-efficient and an output of 10-14 W LED lights are energy-efficient.

Note that there is no power adapter inside the box, you have to get one yourself, the good thing is that you can plug it into your laptop, desktop, or a power bank and it will light up.

This is a nice move considering you are at a place where there is no socket, you can just plug it into any of the mentioned devices.

Value for Money

Price Comparison

The price of this lamp is very friendly, I got it for only KES.2,129 and this includes the shipping fees. Compared to other lamps out there, this one has more features for that price.

I can confidently say that the features and performance are justifiable for the price, however, keep in mind I bought it from jumia, and the price might differ in other online or physical stores.

Pros and Cons

What I Loved

The best aspect of this desk LED lamp is the rotatable base, I can rotate to whichever side I want without having to dismantle it.

The 3 color modes are good for eye protection plus the the different color temperatures and the non-flickering which help in reducing eye strain when studying or doing other activities on my desk.

The LED head is easily adjustable and can be directed into any preferred position. The added memory setting, which retains your previous preferences, is also a huge plus for me.

Areas of improvement

There are not many drawbacks to this lamp, but I was able to find a few. Firstly, there is no base stand, which means you have to attach it to a desk for it to be usable.

A base stand would enable the lamp to be moved from one place to another without needing to attach it to a desk. Additionally, it has a lifespan of 3500 hours, which is equivalent to 4 years and might not seem like a lot.

Second, I noted that the warm light even at low brightness was fairly bright, it would still light my entire desk, and for some that would be an issue.

If you are a student or work in an office, especially at night or in a space without natural light, this lamp will meet your needs. You can adjust it to your desired level as it offers different brightness modes.

Additionally, it is durable due to its aluminum construction and has a lifespan of 4 years, ensuring long-lasting use.

However, there are some warnings that you should take after purchasing the lamp which include;

1. Please make sure to use the correct voltage to power the product, as using an inappropriate voltage may cause damage.
2. You should never disassemble the product or try repairing it since you might damage it.
3. Do not expose the lamp to moisture or liquid as it may cause electrical shock and reduce the LED lamp's lifespan.
4. You should always unplug the adapter when the light is not in use for an extended lifespan
5. Those under 16 years old should use the product under adult supervision.
