Best 5G Smartphones in Kenya Under KES 30,000 (2026 Guide)
TL;DR
Why Buy Budget 5G? It’s not just about internet speed. 5G chips (like Dimensity 6300) use newer 6nm tech, meaning better battery life and gaming performance than older 4G phones.
Cheapest Entry: Samsung Galaxy A07 5G (~KES 16,000) – The best start for students/first-time users.
Best Value Display: Samsung Galaxy F17 5G (~KES 20,000) – Super AMOLED screen + OIS camera (rare at this price).
Best Performance: Poco M8 Pro 5G (~KES 29,500) – 100W charging and a chipset that handles gaming well.
Best Battery & Design: Infinix Note Edge (~KES 33,000) – Premium curved screen and a massive 6500mAh battery.
The Safe Bet: Samsung Galaxy A17 5G (~KES 24,000) – A reliable all-rounder with Gorilla Glass protection and guaranteed updates.
Bottom Line: If you have KES 20k, buy the Samsung F17; if you have KES 16k, the A07 is your only real 5G choice.
5G in Kenya is no longer a flagship-only feature. With expanding coverage from Safaricom and Airtel, super-fast speeds are finally reaching budget users
The Kenyan market is flooded with many budget 5G smartphones, and it begs the question, which budget phones actually work well?
I have analyzed last year's and this year's releases to identify 5G budget phones that balance speed, battery life, and price.
Buying Advice: What to Look for in a Budget 5G Phone
Before you buy that budget 5G smartphone, you should consider a few things, including the processor.
Processors use different manufacturing processes, which affect performance and efficiency. For example, the Dimensity 6300, built on a 6nm process by MediaTek, is more efficient and capable than older 4G chipsets like the Helio G96, which uses a larger 12nm process. The smaller 6nm design allows for better performance, lower power consumption, and improved heat management.
As apps are getting heavier, 5G processors will handle 2026 updates better than 4G processors from 2024, which is good for future proofing.
Devices with 5G tend to consume more power, and that is why I recommend going with a 5G smartphone that has a 5000mAh and above, and if you stay in a place where there is no 5G network, it’s better to switch to a 4G network to prevent battery drain.
These phones that we will discuss below support the n78 (3500MHz), which is used by both Safaricom and Airtel, which provides a balance of coverage and speed.
Ultimately, 5G smartphones will hold second-hand value in Kenya better than a 4G smartphone next year.
The List: Best Budget 5G Smartphones Under KES 30,000
Samsung Galaxy A07 5G (The Entry-Level King)
The Samsung A07 5G is among the cheapest 5G smartphones that you can get in the country right now. This phone retails for about KES 16,000 for the 4GB RAM and 128GB ROM.
The phone has a 6.7-inch IPS LCD, and it is paired with a fast 120Hz refresh rate for smooth swipes and scrolling. The display has a resolution of 720 by 1600, not the sharpest out there, and it can go as bright as 800 nits.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 6300 (6nm), which will handle your daily tasks well as long as you don’t push it to the max, as you might experience performance throttling.
The phone comes with Android 16, and Samsung has promised up to 6 years of software updates updates which no other brand comes close to supporting budget devices as Samsung does.
On the optics, the A07 has a single 50MP rear camera, and at the front, you get an 8MP selfie shooter, and both the rear and the front-facing cameras can record videos up to 1080p.
Why buy? This is likely the cheapest 5G smartphone from abig brand, which is great for students and first-time 5G owners
The biggest compromise with this phone is the HD+ display, and not a full HD display. Many devices at this price point have a 1080p display, but those devices are 4G so Samsung had to cut corners to keep the prices low.
Samsung Galaxy F17 5G (Gorgeous Display)
The Samsung F17 5G is yet another budget contender from Samsung that goes for around KES 20,000 for the 4GB 128GB storage and KES 21,500 for the 6GB 128GB.
On the display front, the Samsung F17 5G comes with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display paired with a 90Hz refresh rate, not the smoothest out there, but it will eventually get the job done.
The display resolution is 1080 by 2240, which is plenty sharp for this price range, and the brightness can go as high as 1100 nits, so using the phone under direct sunlight shouldn’t be an issue, and the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Exynos 1330 (5nm), which proves to be very efficient. It can handle most tasks you throw at it with ease, but tasks like playing heavy, demanding games might not provide the best experience on this device. It runs on Android 15 out of the box, skinned on top of OneUI 7, and Samsung has promised up to 6 years of major OS updates.
The F17 5G has a 50MP main camera with OIS, 5MP ultrawide, and a rather Gimmicky 2MP macro lens.
At the front, you get a 13MP selfie shooter, and unfortunately,y both the rear and the front-facing cameras can record videos up to 1080p.
Powering the phone is a 5000mAh battery, and it supports up to 25W wired charging, but you have to buy the charger separately.
Why buy? It has OIS, which is a rare feature at this price point, and it is good enough for steady video. Second, the Super AMOLED screen is far better than the LCD on the A07 5G.
If you are looking for an excellent display and good enough cameras, then the Samsung F17 is the phone to go for.
Xiaomi Poco M8 Pro 5G (Performance Pick)
The Xiaomi Poco M8 Pro is next on this list, and it goes for around KES 29,500 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
On the display front, the Poco M8 Pro 5G features a 6.83-inch 1.5k AMOLED display paired with a fast 120Hz refresh rate for smooth swipes and scrolling while playing games.
The M8 Pro has a high peak brightness at this category, coming at 2200nits and the display includes goodies such as Dolby Vision, vivid HDR, and HDR10+, and it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass victus 2.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (4nm). This chipset will handle most tasks you throw at it with ease; the only place you might notice the performance throttle is while you are playing demanding titles like Wuthering Waves and Genshin Impact, which are very demanding.
The phone has a single 50MP rear camera with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 32MP selfie shooter. The rear camera can record videos up to 4k resolution, and the front-facing camera can record videos up to 1080p.
Powering the phone is a 6500mAh battery paired with a 100W charger, which you do get inside the box.
Infinix Note Edge 5G (The Design Statement)
The Infinix Note Edge was recently launched in Kenya, making it the first smartphone to use the Mediatek Dimensity 7100, and it retails for KES 32, 999 for the 8GB 256GB storage.
The display of the Infinix Note Edge is a 3D curved 6.78-inch AMOLED display paired with 120z refresh rate, 2160Hz PWM dimming, and up to 4500 nits, the brightest in this category.
The display has a 1.5k resolution, which is plenty sharp, and it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.
Under the hood, the Note Edge uses the Mediatek 7100 (6nm) chipset, which is the first phone to use the chipset, which is a very efficient midrange chipset. You should expect a solid, balanced experience for daily tasks, multitasking, and moderate gaming.
At the back, you get a 50MP selfie camera with OIS, and at the front, you get a 13MP selfie shooter; the rear cameras can record videos up to 2k 30fps resolution and 1080p for the front facingcamera.
Powering the Note Edge is a 6500mAh battery, the biggest in this list, and it comes with a 45W charger, which can charge from 0-50 percent in 27 minutes. It also supports 10W reverse wired charging and bypass charging.

The display of the Samsung A17 5G is a 6.7-inch super AMOLED paired with a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 800 nits.
It has a resolution of 1080 by 2340, and it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Exynos 1330 (5nm) same chipset used on the Samsung F17. The A17 5G launched with Android 15 out of the box with OneUI 7 skinned on top, and Samsung has promised up to 6 years of software updates.
On the optics, it has a 50MP main camera, a 5MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro lens. At the front, you get a 13MP selfie shooter, and both the rear and the front-facing cameras can record videos up to 1080p.
The Samsung A17 5G has a 5000mAh battery, and it supports up to 25W charging, but keep in mind you have to buy the charger separately.
