Samsung Galaxy A57 & Galaxy A37 Officially Launch in Kenya: Full Prices and What You Get

Samsung has officially launched two new devices in the Kenyan market, the A37 and A57, and for the first time, these devices are worth your time and not your money.

In my previous coverage, I mentioned that the Galaxy A57 will cost KES 80,000; this was based on my direct conversion from Euros.

It’s important to note that direct currency conversion rarely matches the final local pricing due to factors such as regional pricing strategies and tax structures.

The Galaxy A57: Is the KES 60k+ Price Tag Justified?

This year, we don’t see a huge upgrade from the A57's predecessor, the Galaxy A56. 

The Galaxy comes with a 6.7-inch super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and high fps while playing games.

Samsung also added some goodies, such as HDR10+ and a peak brightness of up to 1900 nits, so using the device under direct sunlight shouldn’t be an issue.

The front display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+, but I recommend using a tempered screen protector because glass is glass and glass breaks.

Samsung also improved the A57's build quality; this time, it is IP68 dust- and water-resistant, meaning it can be submerged in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes straight.

The A57 is also slimmer compared to its predecessor, coming at just 6.99 thick

Another improvement on the A57 is in performance, though not by much; you get the new Exynos 1680 (4nm), which offers slight gains.

The A57 comes with Android 16 out of the box, and Samsung is offering up to 6 years of software updates, more than any other brand at this price point.

On the memory front, you get 128GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 12GB RAM, 512GB 12GB RAM; the 512GB 12GB is region dependent, and in Kenya, the main storage configurations are likely the 128GB 8GB RAM, 256GB 8GB RAM.

On the camera side, it comes with a 50MP main camera, a new 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro lens, for those who…use it? Anyway, at the front, there is a 12MP selfie shooter. 

Both the rear and front-facing cameras can record videos at up to 4K resolution with HDR support, and only the rear camera supports OIS.

The battery is a 5000mAh, the same capacity we had on last year’s A56; it supports up to 45W fast charging, and that’s it, no wireless charging or reverse wireless charging, and you have to buy a charger separately.

Other notable improvements include WI-FI 6, which improves efficiency, lowers latency, and boosts speed in crowded environmentsand bluetooth 6.0.

I feel the A57 is overpriced, and I get it; it’s because the memory shortage is driving prices up.

Even so, you could get a better device for almost the same price, such as the Xiaomi 15T, which, in my opinion, is the best buy at this price point, or the Google Pixel 10a.

It comes in four colorways: Navy, Gray, Icy Blue, and Lilac.

The Galaxy A37: The Sub-50k Sweet Spot

Let’s turn our heads over to the Samsung Galaxy A37, and just like the Galaxy A57, we don’t get any major upgrades here as well.

First off, the display is a 6.7-inch AMOLED, not a Super AMOLED Plus like we get on the A57. Anyway, it’s good to see Gorilla Glass victus on the front and back. 

It has a peak brightness of 1900 nits, so using it under direct sunlight won’t be an issue.

The frame is plastic and, just like its bigger sibling, the A57, the A37 also features IP68 protection, and it can be submerged in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, which is a welcome upgrade, but I doubt anyone will ever leave their A57 or A37 in water for that long. I stand corrected.

On the performance side, the A37 comes with the Exynos 1480 (4nm), which was in last year’s Galaxy A56.

The performance leap isn’t that huge, and according to benchmark results, the 1480 (4nm) is only 20 percent faster than the Snapdragon 6 Gen.

Out of the box, the A57 runs Android 16, and Samsung is also offering 6 years of OS updates, up to Android 22.

On the memory side, the A37 offers three storage configurations: 128GB with 6GB RAM, 128GB with 8GB RAM, 256GB with 8GB RAM, and 256GB with 12GB RAM. In Kenya, we mainly get the 128GB 8GB RAM and 256GB 8GB RAM.

On the camera front, the phone features a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 5MP macro, which most people don’t actually need.

At the front, you get a 12MP selfie snapper. The cameras are basically the same as those on the A36, so I expect similar or slightly better performance.

Both the rear and front-facing cameras can record videos at up to 4 K resolution.

The battery is a 5000 mAh unit that has remained unchanged across the last 5 generations. It supports up to 45W fast charging, so it can take a little over 1hour 14 minutes to fully charge. There is no wireless charging support, and the charger is not included.

It comes in four color ways: Graygreen, Charcoal, White, and Light Violet.

With the Galaxy A37 8GB 256GB starting at KES 60,200, a KES 700 difference from the A57 8GB 128 GB, I would just add KES 700 and get the A58 8GB 128GB.

The storage might be limited, but you get better performance, a better display, a better build, and more AI features.

For the Galaxy A57, I’d pick the Xiaomi 15T over it: better performance, a sharper display, faster charging, and a more premium build. Only downside? The software can feel a bit jittery at times.

AI Features

Both phones include a couple of AI features, such as edit suggestions that analyze media on your device and suggest improvements to your images.

Final Verdict / Buying Advice

In my opinion, the Galaxy A57 is starting to feel a bit overpriced for what it offers. When you look at the specs, it’s hard to ignore that you can get more value by switching brands. For example, the Xiaomi 15T offers more for your money.

Then there’s the A37, especially the 8GB/256GB variant; it’s just too expensive for what it is. At that point, you’re honestly better off topping up a few extra shillings and going for the A57 with higher RAM, assuming storage isn’t your main concern. And even outside Samsung, options like the Nothing 4a start to look very tempting, with more RAM, a slightly bigger battery, reverse wired charging, and even a periscope lens in the mix.

So the real question is, are you actually upgrading to the A57, or does the A37 make more sense for your budget?
