Tecno Camon Slim vs Spark Slim: Same Phone, Different Name?

Over the years, thin smartphones have always been associated with poorer battery life, but Tecno’s Slim series is proving that doesn’t always have to be the case.

Following the launch of the Tecno Spark Slim and the more recent Tecno Camon Slim, many people are starting to see some similarities between these two smartphones. 

When you look closely at the specs, they look very similar with 1.5k displays and the Mediatek Helio G200 processors, which leads me to wonder, what exactly sets them apart?

Design and Durability: Millimeters and Mini-LEDs

The design and build are almost similar apart from a few differences here and there.

The Camon Slim comes in at 6.39mm thick, and it rocks IP68/69 dust and water resistance, so dipping it in water shouldn’t be an issue here.

On the Spark Slim, we only get IP 64 dust and splash water resistant.

Still on the durability, both phones are MIL-STD 810H certified.

At the back of the Camon Slim is an AI mood light with a 354-dot programmable mini-LED matrix, which is similar to the one on the Spark Slim, although we don’t know how many mini-LED matrix dots have been used.

Display: Identical 1.5K AMOLED Excellence

Moving on to the display, both phones sport 6.78-inch AMOLED 3D-curved panels with a fast 44Hz refresh rate for smooth swipes and scrolling.

The panels are also 1.5k resolution, and they both have 2160Hz PWM dimming for those with sensitive eyes at night, which comes in handy, especially for someone like me who scrolls on social media at peak hours of the night, and might help reduce headaches. 

These are some of the nifties that I consider when buying a smartphone; they come in handy.

Performance and Software: Helio G200 vs G200 Ultimate

Under the hood, they are both powered by the Mediatek Helio G200 (6nm), which is a processor we have seen in previous Tecno devices like the Spark 40 Pro Plus.

Tecno has added the word “Ultimate” to the Camon Slim. I don’t know what’s different from the standard G200, since the architecture is the same, or is it a marketing gimmick? I am probably leaning towards the word “Ultimate” being a marketing gimmick.

On the software side of things, the Camon Slim comes with Android 16 with HIOS 16.2 skinned on top, and it’s expected to receive up to three major OS upgrades, great for future proofing.

The  Spark Slim, on the other hand, launched with Android 15 on top of HIOS 15 out of the box, and it won’t be receiving any major OS updates, maybe security patches, which are not guaranteed to be timely.

Cameras: A Clear Winner for Selfies

At the rear, they both spot a 50MP main camera, but the Camon Slim utilizes the Sony LYTIA 600 sensor. 

For the selfie snapper, the Camon Slim has a 32MP selfie shooter, while the Spark Slim has a 13MP selfie shooter, which might bring a huge difference in terms of quality and detail.

They will both record videos at 1440p 30fps.

Battery and Charging: Is the Upgrade Noticeable?

At the battery department is where we start seeing some notable differences, although not with a huge margin.

The Camon Slim packs a fairly large 5600mAh battery, and on top of that, it has a 60W fast charger.

The Spark Slim has a 5160mAh battery with 45W wired charging that can juice up the phone from 0-100% 57 minutes, and you get the charger inside the box on both.

The 440mAh and 15W increase on the Camon Slim is a slight jump, and it will definitely make a difference, adding an extra hour or two.

Conclusion

While the display and core performance are identical, the Camon Slim justified its existence through an upgraded selfie camera, strong IP68/69 rating out of the box, Android 16, and the flashy mini-LED back.

If you want better selfies, a slightly bigger battery with fast charging, a strong IP rating, longer software support, and an overall better build, then get the Camon Slim.

If you just want a much thinner phone (5.93mm) and want to save a bit of cash, then get the Spark Slim, but if you already own the Spark Slim, I don’t think there is a good enough reason to get the Camon Slim.

In my opinion, these phones are the same, with only a few improvements.
